Now you are talking of a time many people perceive as a kinder and gentler America when people didn''t lock their cars or homes, could leave the key in the ignition, and offering rides to hitchikers was the norm. The issues have changed. Abortion was not an issue. Civil rights was a non-starter for most Americans. Few school children used drugs, guns were virtually unheard of among young people, and young people feared authority. Both democrats and republicans are different from those during the administrations of Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Dwight Eisenhower. It is sad when people are categorically condemned because they are republican or democrat. Who are these republicans and democrats? They are your next door neighbors, teachers, policemen, doctors, etc. Perhaps they are your parents, aunts and uncles, or grandparents. In many families, some members are republican and some are democrats. Are they the satans and the Nazis that some of you claim. No, they are people with different philosophies and ideas.
