Looking through the comments on this one has been hilariously predictable. Most Americans don't have the slightest idea what patriotism is. And those who take the most vocal pride in their patriotism almost always have the least idea. Nationalism isn't patriotism. Jingoism isn't patriotism. "My Country Right or Wrong" definitely isn't patriotism. Patriotism is voting for the good of your country rather than your narrow views. Patriotism is being willing to admit the flaws of your country in order to fix them. Patriotism is opposing your country when it commits evil, in order to keep it to its original noble goals.

Rosanne Cash 500 Miles???? How is that more patriotic than 'God Bless America' or 'America the Beautiful'?? Or any of the songs you mentioned or about 100 others?

Seriously........???!!!
What about "Proud to be an American" or "Eighth of November"? That's just two on a very long list, that I'm not seeing up here. I can honestly say that this list is borderline offensive to our troops and our country. How quickly people lose sight of what patriotism is. This list is almost pure garbage!

Mr. Rothberg,

I listened to most of your songs, yet I could not find much patriotism in any of them. Perhaps that was your point, I'm not sure. But one thing I am 100% sure of is this- There is nothing POLITICAL in PATRIOTISM.

Of course there is! Are you going to tell me the civil rights movement isn't something to celebrate? Or the fight against the Vietnam war? Standing up for what you believe in when others tell you you're wrong is about as American as you can get! Not singing retarded songs like "Proud to be an American," or wearing flags at sporting events, which technically, you're not supposed to do anyway. Do you know flag burning is legal, or how to even fold one properly? Have you spoken out against injustice in this country? Then you can call yourself patriotic.

Um, this seems like kind of a rediculous list considering all of the songs you could have picked.

This gives credit to the singers but neither to the composers nor to the writers of the lyrics. Why not?
