The Nation: Enough With The Feminism, Time For Some Tough Questions
- pt 1
---"This column was written by Katha Pollitt.
John McCain chose the supremely under-qualified Sarah Palin as his running mate partly because she is a woman."---
You know what else I''m about fed up to her with are these writers who make their LIVING off in-depth analysis, concepts and the written word not having anything else to bring to the table except trashing Sarah.
I have yet to see a piece by a woman that touches upon any internal sense that they''re being tugged in two directions, that they are stymied by this new twist on feminism, that they actually SEE in Barack that he passed over a woman that would have provided him with an 8% cushion over McCain, that he calls women ''sweetie'', that he talks pay parity but doesn''t practice it in real life, that they realize that casting a vote for a Democrat means their potentially closing the door to another female possibly making it to the Executive Level for another 25 years (because Hillary could become incapacitated in the next 8 years, or even Bill which might compromise her viability). - Reply to this comment

What about factoring in that a politician''s personal beliefs aren''t the only factor affecting policy and that the top of the ticket factors in as well as who''s in Congress as well as what issues are going to take priority? What about factoring in that the Dem controlled Congress would have to vote to appoint the next US Supreme Court justice and that Palin has already compromised by agreeing that abortion could be determined by States rights.
And THEN make the Dem case for why women ought to vote for Barack over McCain/Palin within that context. Because that''s what you''re up against. The more I see other women just lashing out at Palin with insults and bashing the more I just think that you can''t make your case and that maybe it''s a whole lot cooler to be a female and be Repub.
Who wants to associate with a pack of angry harpies?

- I can''t believe people have such a low opinion of themselves they would buy eyeglasses to copy this insane, talking in tongue, six college quitting, lying, bridge to nowhere money keeping Caribou Barbie. Who''d want to look like her anyway, she is not a beauty queen by a long shot, and seems to me morphing into an evil looking witch type.

"But we all know Republican doctrine is `do as I say and not as I do!`. Republicans are special, Republicans are exempt, Republicans are above the Law, the Rules don`t apply to Republicans only to the rest of America! LOL"

Isn''t that the truth!
I honestly think that this strange "mindset" derives from the overtly religious orientation of the majority of Republicans.
Fundamentalist Christians have the attitude that their religious beliefs are totally "off limits" and should never be questioned - their beliefs MUST be "respected" by everybody else; it''s not a request, but an outright demand.
Because their religious agendas motivate their political choices, they further demand that neither their religious nor, by extension, their political assertions ever be challenged.
Doing so is heresy!
You can''t love God or Country if you criticize the Republicans or their agenda or their methods or motives. It''s just unpatriotic, un-American, and blasphemously anti-God.- Reply to this comment
- The snowmobiles, the moose burgers, the guns, the hair, the glasses, Oh my !!! The left-wing feminists have re-emerged bringing questions of Palin dripping with self-hatred and classism. Oh, why can''t Palin be more appealing to America''s elite?

Oh, but she is and does appeal to America''s elite - McCain picked her. - Reply to this comment
- You know what''s heartbreaking for me is that I understand the sense of like that for a Dem like me to cross the aisle to realize my dream, that maybe I''m working against the dream of somebody else in this historic election. I GET that, and I''m really sorry that it''s come down to that.

- `If there were an Olympics for hypocrisy, the Republican Party would have more gold medals than Michael Phelps.`
Exactly! It was Sen. John McCain himself who attacked Sen. Hillary Clinton`s Health Care Plan as `putting lipstick on a pig`! But we all know Republican doctrine is `do as I say and not as I do!`. Republicans are special, Republicans are exempt, Republicans are above the Law, the Rules don`t apply to Republicans only to the rest of America! LOL - Reply to this comment
- PS And by the way I did in fact vote for Barack over Hillary in the primaries because I really didn''t believe a person''s color or gender mattered in how they carried out their job. Watching him pass over Hillary when it would have enhanced his ability to win made it obvious to me that he wasn''t as open to me as I was to him.
