New Republic: Why Sarah Palin's Image Does Not Advance The Cause Of Working Women
- ramos937, I agree with you that a child needs it''s mother, but both mother and dad full time looking after it is not possible for anyone, someone has to bring home the bacon.
I do believe and studies have shown that men are just not up there with looking after babies, they have their other areas of expertise However having said this, this woman has obviously worked things out, her family is all doing well, and a pregnant daughter doesn''t mean that she has failed, it just means that like so many other people that she has made a mistake, but if she had two or three etc children to different fathers then I would be jumping up and down..
I don''t personally believe that children should be left with someone else until they are at least 5, but Mrs. Pulin seems to be managing it well, and seems to have the energy, money and help that most of us don''t My husband is one of those rotten people who seems to have boundless energy and gets done three times what the average person does in a day, it makes me so tired eheheh. - Reply to this comment
- Thanks to Republicans, there''s a $10 trillion debt out there, poised to enslave our children, who would be paying for Reagans administration, among others.
Servicing the debts interest payments is now the SECOND LARGEST CASH OUTLAY the Feds make, after defense spending: $300 billion a year basically to convince the rest of the world that we aren''t bankrupt.
And McCain wants those tax cuts to be permanent??? To my mind, thats a permanent enslavement of an entire generation of young Americans. And all because, at the end of the day, ''small government'' Republicans don''t mean it. They''ve bought into a lie that they want small government, but even with EVERY BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT UNDER THEIR CONTROL, they don''t cut spending, cuz they know that would cut in to peoples gov''t services and livelihoods, and would cost them votes. So they KEEP ON CHARGING IT to the children.
Deeply, horribly, unethical. - Reply to this comment
- Palin has one unwed teenage mon-to-be and a baby with downs symdrone. Both need her at home especially the baby. Various tests, studies, experts and ordinary parents maintain that if the baby was to receive patient and continuous help starting with infancy, he would enjoy a much better quality of life. Since the father will not do it, the it is up to the mother.
Both still, both will be needed on a full time basis to give the baby wheat he needs. They chose to have the baby and now they have to commit to providing everything he needs. Including a full time mom and dad. - Reply to this comment

- News Reporters Peter Hamby and Rebecca Sinderbrand just reported the following:
"Sarah Palin did not visit troops in Iraq, a spokesperson for the Republican VP nominee confirmed Saturday, as new details emerged about the extent of the Alaska governor''''s foreign travel".
"(In addition) earlier, campaign aides confirmed reports that Palin''''s time in Ireland on that trip had actually been a re-fueling stop" . . . (not for international business transactions as earlier reported).

- You know what - I wonder whether Tina Fey''ll try this core-Dem line of attack tonight on SNL . . . parody Palin in the Oval Office with a barfing baby draped over her shoulder while Putin''s on a conference call or whatever.
And I wonder whether Repubs''ll have more ammo to go after NBC on the line of attack that they''ve got a partisan ''agenda'' that ''denigrates'' the competencies of women or whatever . . .
Ought to be interesting! - Reply to this comment
- Personally, I am sick of her name already and I do not even live in the U.S. of A. She oozes a supercilious attitude and projects an image of, "I am woman, therefore I can do it all, why can''t anyone?"
What goes round, comes around Sarah Palin. - Reply to this comment
- This article is dead-on. Very glad to see it & thanks to all the staff/parents who helped.

The whole world needs to be afraid of a woman who belongs to a nut job Pentacostal church. Have you ever seen these lunatics rolling on the floor speaking in tongues? This is the person you want to have a hand on a nuclear trigger? You ugly hateful neo-cons only see the party winning or losing. YOu could care less for right or wrong, benefit vs harmful. You are all full of krap. - Reply to this comment

- Again the campaigns sound alike. Obama and his "if I can make it and I''m black, why can''t other blacks get off their behinds and work too" to Palin and her "stop whining and get on with it" to poor women.
Both make a good point of do it yourself and stop asking for a hand out fromt the Government. We are turning into a Socialist Nation and not a Democracy. People, no one told you to have children you can''t afford to take care of. There should be free abortions for all black and hispanic women and poor white women. Let''s get rid of society''s burden. Pay your own way!!! Stop depending on other peoples taxes to support your mistakes. - Reply to this comment
- PS Just like on Saturday Night Live - it''s one thing for them to stick up for Hillary at a liberal institution in a liberal industry . . . they are NEVER going to stick up for a Republican. It''d be career suicide.

Could be - I just thought it was the case of The Nation having liberals as their core group of readers such that the hires are all core liberals who don''t understand the views of the other side of the aisle.
There''s a better non-partisan argument to be made, but why pony that up to the guy in the race who only talks pay-parity but in reality doesn''t walk the talk?
Although who knows - most women with strong party affiliation seem mired in the defense of proclaiming publicly that they are MILES apart from Palin''s, or that they are COMPLETE OPPOSITES, or that they don''t agree with ANYTHING she says when the reality is that leaders rarely govern solely on their beliefs. Legislators might, but at the Executive level with a diverse group of people and a mixed upper branch, it''s virtually impossible, so belief aren''t really as relevant as what a politician intends to do and how likely they are to stick to their word. - Reply to this comment

You should not let someone like this make you feel bad.
Sarah uses the system and gets paid per diem to live in her own house.
You can be good at killing animal too.
Just by a BB or pellet gun and have someone drive you around and you can shoot dogs and cats.
Now don''t you feel better. - Reply to this comment

Your posts are repulsive - and I don''t just mean the gory way in which you seem to love to paint abortion - I mean in your lack of sense and your lack of truthfulness.
Barack Obama has said many times that he would oppose late-term abortions if there were an exception for the life/health of the mother. So, you have taken a position of compassion for the mother and turned it into gory serial-killing, as only a rabid anti-choice person can do. Would you rather the mother died?
Shame on you. - Reply to this comment
- or go dwell on the 5000 babies who died in Iraq and Afghanistan because of you nut job, lying republican hawks, chasing after Iraq''s oil, and profit from your investments.

- hey Scaredgirl,,,why don''t you go raise those 5000 babies, who if not wanted, and make it to adulthood, will in turn breed 5000 more babies, and so on, and so on,,then you republicans can *** some more about welfare in this country.

- While McClone whines and whines about a supposed insult to poor sensitive Sarah Palin, McClone''s surrogates and cat''s paws on the Internet spew any and all vile racial insults against Obama--McCain pretends he has nothing to do with it--comments about fried chicken, Stepin Fechit, and all the other White Supremacist code words the Neocon Fascists trot out to insult Obama as an African-American.
These were the good conservative White Christian folk who operated the terrorist organization the KKK, the crooked cops who looked the other way in Alabama as Black heros were murdered by thugs, and the rest of the slime.
But question Palin''s or McCain''s credentials, and these vermin are all "outraged".
It would be funny if it weren''t so pathetic. - Reply to this comment
- Did anyone besides me notice when they announced that Bristol was PG that they claimed it was Bristol''s choice to have the baby. Do you really think she had the choice? I think not.
If my daughter was PG at that age I would have told her she did not have to have the child there are choices. Abortion should be the last option but these people want to ban any choice of even birth control if they could. Which to me prevents the whole issue of unwanted children they claim will leach off the system. We need modern thinking people in this modern world, not those that think we should get back to the 50''s mentality. Which by the way had just as much *** going on then as today just it was not in the open. Grandma''s raised grand kids as their own to prevent others from finding out that the daughter''s were unwed mothers. This was after the daughter was sent away until the child was born.
Many think that *** is in heaven why would it be then if it is only for pro creation. - Reply to this comment
