National Review Online: Sarah Palin Is Taking Hits Over The Bridge, But Obama And Biden Have Their Own Questions To Answer
- raflin01: McCain is not allowing Palin to be question as part of their master strategy. There are 54 days left. How many of those days can McCain get the Media to talk about Rick Davis? How many of those days can he keep Obama on defense? How many days will Obama talk about Palin instead of Himself? Palins press access is a kin to the ace up the sleeve. When McCain plays his ace at a time and place of his choosing it will dominate the news. When do you play it? Never if you don''t have to and right now they don''t have to. The liberal media is going nuts looking for dirt and is having a hard time. Let them drive them selfs nuts while at the same time they deny press coverage to Obama. If Obama should start gaining traction and trying to get on Offense play the ace and knock him out of the media again. There are 54 days left at this point a candidate needs to dominate the news cycles. If Obama can''t handle McCain what the hell is he going to with Putin or Iran....

I appreciate your post demonstrating the bias on the writer of this article. The writer clearly demonstrates his partisan desires to cut down Obama & Biden.
I was not aware of the numbers that you posted and do appreciate them. My thoughts exactly were that Biden & Obama have not come out and said that they consider these earmarks to be "pork barrel spending".
The argument that McCain and Palin bring up about cutting out "pork barrel spending" does not provide the recipients of this message the facts that what they consider excessive spending is not necessarily what the average person will think of as excess.
More than likely - the spending that they will consider will be aimed toward helping those who struggle the most and will consider the spending that helps their cronies worthwhile...
I do not trust these republicans any farther than I can throw them... They have lied so much - and stolen ideals of their oponents - not because they believe in the change but because they know it is the only message that the majority of voters want to hear...
It has been so obvious that they are using whatever tactics and ploys to win at whatever cost it takes. I have seen Obama do his best to refrain from responding to all of this junk and stay on track with the issues and have been more impressed with his ability to do this... - Reply to this comment
- web6242a: The POWs from Vietnam had a system of remembering the lies they told. You didn''t want your captures to know you were lying so you had to be consistent. The trick was to use people from your life. For example your high school principal may become your commanding officer. Your best friend may have been your wing man. They created rather elaborate lies to save there a$$es and mislead their captures. John McCain is a hero to me for not leaving early. I don''t know if I could have been that stubborn.

- Is Deroy Murdock TRYING to distort the numbers or did he sleep through math class in grade school? Since Illinois''s population is 19 times that of Alaska, Illinois''s fair share of earmarks should be 19 times bigger. The PER-CAPITA figures (from Citizens against Government Waste) are:
In 2008:
AK #1 555.54/person = 521.77/person ABOVE average
IL #31 25.47/person = 8.30/person BELOW average
In 2006:
AK #1 489.87/person = 459.32/person ABOVE average
IL #31 27.47/person = 3.08/person BELOW average
Unlike McCain or Palin, Obama has NOT stated that funding worthwhile projects via earmarks is inherently bad. Therefore, as long all the other states (including Alaska) continue to get special project funding, Obama wouldn''t be properly representing his citizens if he didn''t try to get a fair share for Illinois. The comparative numbers indicate that Alaskan -- one of the wealthies states in the nation due to the royalty windfall from high crude oil prices -- has been consistently getting much more than its fair share of earmarks. THAT''S what makes Palin''s boast of being a reformer crusading against earmarks seem a bit silly.
As for the Coburn amendment, the lopside margin of the vote (82-15), indicates that there was significant bipartisan opposition, so Murdock may not be telling the full story about the context for the bill (were any OTHER bills for funding New Orleans awaiting a vote?) or what additional provisions the amendment may have contained. - Reply to this comment

- Bridges to isolated places are not a good idea. The money would be better spent in cities on parks, public transportation and law enforcement. New York shoild be the model. Not Los Angeles or Phoenix. Urban sprawl is the causing the destruction wilderness and over consumption of resources. Be conservative. Liberals will cause the system to collapse.

- I will take Palin''s earmark record over Obama and Biden''s any day. Almost 1 Billion for IL comared to a few million. 300 bucks per person in Alaska, of course it is high, there aren''t many people in Alaska. There are thousands and millions of people in IL and so the average is way down. Too bad the Dems picked the empty suit. Did you see the interview he did with O''Rielly, he was befuddled over and over. He lacks poise, ability to think on his feet. Needs to go back to kindergarden and learn how to think, not talk, talk, talk, like the comercial. Just think if Obama gets elected, he will have Kawme in his cabnet after he gets out of jail here in MI. Better yet, the first thing he will do is pardon KK.

- As usual, NRO publishes pure bull in order to obscure the facts and bash Obama in any way possible.
They want you to give credit to the brilliant anti-earmark Sarah Palin.
But back up a step. Is this the same Sarah Palin who hired a full-time lobbyist associated with Jack Abramoff to bring in $27 million in earmarks when she way mayor? Money to build a sports complex that raised the sales tax, indebted the city and landed them now in court in a dispute with the landowner?
And they did overlook one little $300 million issue. Yes, the lady canceled the project once it was obvious it would never fly in Congress. But that didn''t stop her from taking the MONEY, which she did, $70 million of which is still sitting in a bank account in case they decide to build a "little" bridge to nowhere.
And, BTW, this is the same Sarah Palin who has the highest per-capita earmark requests (over $300 per person) of any state in the Union.
