Obama''s big donations come from the very rich. Big surprise. Can we really expect this man to be any different the the rest of the scumbags in modern politics. I have my doubts. I don''t even know who this man is. He seems to be a Hollywood creation not a real person.

I was actually counting abandoning Iraq as an economic plus for Obama. It was the rest of the shopping list that would cause the tax blowout.

On the corruption issue, Democrats are not immune. Obama comes from Chicago, after all.

I will give a brief look at where the new costs come from: welfare increases, creation of government-funded pretend jobs, creation of vast bureaucracies to further regulate business, rampant trade unionism, shutting down of existing power sources to introduce compulsory green power, increase in medical costs, building of government housing, accommodating a huge increase in illegal migration and dealing with crime increases and loss of production arising from softening crime laws.

"Looking at The Nation''''s shopping list, I would estimate that implementation of seven of the items would lead to an increase of 20-30% in Federal income taxes for the average working person." Posted by ausus

The numbers you post are questionable, as they assume that our tax money will continue to be misspent on war, and corruption, that corporate welfare will continue unabated, and that there will be no effort to reprioritize policies, and that any new effort would require new taxes.

I don''t think this to be the case, the "war" budget alone, at 3.5 trillion and counting, and the budget for bailouts and other forms of corporate welfare, if shifted from spreading death to promoting life, would go a long way towards meeting the goals.

"Mr. Obama''''s got my support, if he can stay on track, and not sell-out his values like I see Mr. McCain doing.
Good article. Well said. Thanks "The Nation"!" Posted by DaShortRound

Agreed, I have signed the letter, and urge all Democrats to do likewise, then encourage everyone we know who is eligible to register and vote against BushIII.

It is simple, he thinks he is God and only has to waive his hand to make things right.

"You stand today at the head of a movement that believes deeply in the change you have claimed as the mantle of your campaign."

WHAT CHANGE??? FOR ONCE AND ALL PLEASE TELL ME WHAT CHANGE MEANS!!!! Raising taxes is a change and the only one I know of that he endorses so far. All this other CHANGE and HOPE is pure crapolla without any details. I hope I win the powerball too but I can''''t tell anyone HOW I am going to do it.

Fedup_w_pols;

The favorite lie resonated by republicans since Reagan began the disastrous policy of, cut taxes, borrow and spend, has always been, democrats will raise taxes.

Well I%u2019m afraid Bush has already taken care of that.

By doubling the national debt, the present republican administration has actually effectuated the largest tax increase ever, on ALL Americans.

Only by taxing the income and or assets of AMERICANS can the $10 trillion dollar debt be repaid.

And until the debt IS repaid, an additional $1/2 trillion dollars in taxes will be required annually, just to pay the interest.

That equates to an ADDITIONAL $5 trillion tax increase per decade, even if we don%u2019t borrow or spend another dime.
