Comments on: Carter’s Role In Legitimizing Hamas
Weekly Standard: Former President May Have Altruistic Motives But His Visit Is Imprudent And Dangerous
- I wonder if Mr. Levitt ever said "imprudent and dangerous" in regards to the push for invasion of Iraq by his cowardly Neo-Clown friends.

- CIcada, do you have a different, grown-up version to share about America''s relation with Iran?

- Since Dayton, the Palestinians were critizied for not following through on opportunities to peace. But the last seven years of no communications have been dark and unfruitful. Something has to change and someone has to speak to the other side. Carter has nothing to lose since being deemed the nation''s number one Anti-Israeli.
This chain of silence has to be broken in order for progress to be made. Hopefully, and that''s a big one, Hamas will begin to see the advantage in dealing with someone other than Syria and Iran. They can''t trust Bush, that can''t trust Rice and they can''t trust the EU. Trust has to start somewhere and maybe that can begin with Carter. I truely believe he wants a fair solution to this difficult problem. - Reply to this comment

- Sure Weakly Standard: Jimmy Carter is singlehandedly ''legitimizing'' Hamas. The Palestinian voters had nothing to do with that.
wesleyjl said: "If [Carter] had stood up to the "Students" that attacked and overran out embassy in Tehran and Nuked the country back into the stone ages, we would not have the problems we now have in the Middle East. "
No, somehow I think our problems would be with MORE than just the Middle East. People like you conveniently forget that WE OVERTHREW THEIR DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT and imposed our man as dictator. After 20 years and THOUSANDS dead, they got their country back. They''ve been hating us ever since. They have never invaded us, but we have DEFINITELY invaded THEM! - Reply to this comment
- The headline might as well have read "Pope picks nose" or "SinginRick finds image of Jesus in morning pancake".
WHERE IS BIN LADEN? That has really been the only relevant question that needs asking since the invasion of Afghanistan.
Seven years of war. Civil rights breached by our commander in chief. Internationally recognized torture sanctioned by the White House. Two invaded and currently occupied countries. Hundreds of thousands dead, including OVER 4000 American soldiers. Billions of our tax dollars spent, and yes, are still being spent to this very moment.
Iraq, which had NOTHING to do with 9/11, is now an occupied country which will implode when we get out of it, whether that happens one, two, ten or five hundred years from now. A society that CHOOSES to be ruled by religion cannot become a democracy; it can only be a theocracy with voting cards.
Bin Laden still lives. The mastermind of 9/11 still walks free.
The one, simple word for this is: failure. No amount of deception, indignation or wailing by republicons can change these facts.
Failure of Bush. Failure of Cheney. Failure of the republicans.
Time for a change. - Reply to this comment
- Maybe we should be talking to both sides in this dispute but we must not take sides. That has been the problem. Israel is our ally so we tend to be biased and side with them in their disputes. The fact that Israel exists today after WWII was not the doing of the United States yet we are hated because they are our ally. If Carter did, by some miricle, manage to get these two states together that would be a major embarrasment to the president and his foreign policy of ignoring your enemies unless you are aiming at them.

- Obama and Carters approach here is wrong, Bush will be gone in Jan this was not an honorable thing for Carter to do. I am remind that as Obama was assuring voters he was anti NAFTA but with a nod and wink he sent an aid to another government to assure them it was campaign rhetoric, when he claimed he would definitely have troops out of Iraq in 16 months he sent Powers with another nod and a wink to England to assure them that was just campaign talk a silly though, today Obama meet with Jewish leaders to assure them that he dose not support Rev Wrights anti Semitic rants and now we have another nod and a wink Carter an Obama supporters wink wink meeting with Israeli enemy and an enemy of the Evil Empire the United States Hamas..

- Having Jimmy Carter working for peace is like having Typhoid Mary working at McDonalds.

- God Bless Jimmy Carter. At least he is trying to bring peace as compared to the greedy, war mongering Israelis.
