National Review Online: The Senator's "Change" Would Radically Alter This Country

Yeah, I''m sure a right-winger from the National Review, who is almost certainly white and upper class, would be pretty unhappy that this "uppity" black couple might occupy the Oval Office and bring an end to the plutocracy that the US has become. I''m sure this author would be very happy to see the gap between rich and poor grow wider still, to the point where the poor in the US become indentured servants.

All the right-wing has to fall back on is the tired saw that people who criticize the flaws of this nation "hate America". If anyone dares to point out the very real systemic inequalities, they get painted as unpatriotic.

The kind of right-wing ideology expressed in this editorial is a mind virus. Conservatism of this stripe should be called by what it is - a religion. It''s a religion because it''s tenets are believed without a shred of any evidence, indeed believed in the face of evidence to the contrary.

After 8 years of disastrous Republican rule, this pompous blowhard would have us believe that the only thing that matters about Obama is that he is close to people who see the flaws of this nation. How is that problematic? Why is it more desirable to have 4 more years of the same laissez-faire approach that has resulted in this train-wreck of an economy?

This is "courageous journalism." The kind of journalism Americans should have been reading about each candidate all along, rather than merely "now," when Senator Obama''s "followers" are so deeply entrenched in supporting his campaign, it is nearly impossible to dissuade them. Even so, I''ll take "now" rather than "never." And perhaps it''s still not too late for folks to acknowledge this man''s unsavory company, and change their minds/votes. This is his mistake and that is why people look at him as elitist. If you travel, you will see that this economic situation is worst in other places.
