The New Republic: Obama's S.C. Win Gained Him Credibility Among Blacks
- There is a fundamental flaw with this arguement. That is that the author makes the assumption that African Americans are a voting bloc and are not capable of independently making decisions on the merit of the candidate. I happen to be African American and a Clinton supporter along with a large portion of my African American friends. We are not homogenous neither is any group in the electorate. Obama associated himself with black America in his speech after losing New Hampshire by giving quotes from Dr. King. He quickly disassociated himself from black America upon his victory in South Carolina claiming that his victory was not based on race. We felt the snub. Any time you get 81% vote from one ethnic group and less than 25% in any other, your campaign was about race. I believe that African Americans from other regions of the country are less racially charged and less inclined to vote for a candidate based on complexion or genitalia. We will vote on merit and the best candidate will be the victor on February 5th.
