National Review Online: Accusations That Gonzales Lied To Congress Are Without Merit
- "The administration%u2019s surveillance of terrorists has, however, undergone several modifications over the period since September 11, and some of the details remain secret. Gonzales%u2019s phrasing was careful, and it was careful because he was trying to avoid disclosing those details."
What! The NSA is spying on Americans in some peoples opinions, and the intricate details of the spying program HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH why A.G. (the puppet) doesn't know UP from DOWN.
Total BS!!!! Dude! I'm tired of the NRO pushing this ***!! You can tell they are cowards because they wouldn't even put their names on the piece. Does the NRO have any WRITTERS anymore?
I hope with Bush and Alberto G., Americans have learned better what DUMB looks and acts like. - Reply to this comment
- In my opinion the combination of the Mexican government and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales both looking the other way at the same time allowed 12 million illegal Mexicans to enter the United States unchecked! Posted by tbweb
Our borders have been open for a very long time. We have laws on the books to close the borders but they were never enforced. To accuse Gonzo of looking the other way while 12 million illegals crossed the border is a rather ludicruous statement and far fetched at that. This is a cumulative encroachment, one that has mushroomed over time. To blame Gonzo for this as well is really stretching the truth. - Reply to this comment
- I do wonder why the Hispanic community hasn't really asserted itself in terms of support for Gonzo.

Perhaps they realize that just because he's hispanic doesn't mean they should automatically defend him - right or wrong? That maybe he's not someone who's worth defending? In large part because he's so obviously unqualified for the position of AG and is little more than a mindless Bush automaton?
That would be take on it. Regardless, I do enjoy watching the Bush apologists make a desperate attempt to play the race card here. But I suppose it's not like you have anything else going for you. - Reply to this comment

In my opinion the combination of the Mexican government and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales both looking the other way at the same time allowed 12 million illegal Mexicans to enter the United States unchecked! Plus, since they were his fellow countrymen Alberto Gonzales did not aggressively pursue them and deport them. Whats even worth he supported giving them Amnesty. When the dust settles and this is looked back on I assure you this will be seen as his worst crime of all. Like he said, he did nothing, and that was the problem exactly! You did nothing! Resign! - Reply to this comment

On the topic of misplaced priorities, funny the editors of NRO would do a piece on Gonzales who 3 neo-con hawks (Robert Mueller, the acting AG at the time, and Ashcroft) are all saying is dirty and a liar but aren't tackling the public desire for a drawdown in Iraq.
I would guess the idea of holding Gonzales accountable is to ensure that those with bad judgment are forced to think through their rationale for wanting to wiretap so that they don't waste precious resources by casting their nets too wide and losing focus on the true threats. Like are the resources available to be eavesdropping on Paula Abdul talking to that Idol contestant she was canoodling with because Paula's name is 'Abdul'? Who might have slipped through the cracks because of that misfocus?
I think it's important for Congress to keep up the investigation on Gonzales because if Bush even fired Rumsfeldt it's hard to believe he'd be keeping Gonzales on purely out of loyalty and not because Gonzales knows things that Bush doesn't want to get out. - Reply to this comment

But I'll admit Congress seems to be distracting themselves from big picture just like the NRO . . . it's not true that Bush can do anything he wants because he's the 'decider'. If the Senate can get a 2/3 majority can't the override Bush's veto power? With more than 2/3 majority of public sentiment wanting out of Iraq and an even greater majority now believing that political benchmarks are highly unlikely, making Congress veto-proof might be achievable if they can put together a solid and detailed plan for phased withdrawal. Because the reality seems to be that we really are going to be better off the sooner we extracate ourself from the middle of the sectarian civil war that the Iraqis aren't willing to end . . . - Reply to this comment
- "The country is at war."
Well, so there is the excuse for lying, perjury, subverting justice, cronyism, undermining our constitution, and no-bid contracts not sited for conflict of interest.
And why are we at war? Because Bush is the Decider.
And why did Bush want war? So there would be a good excuse for lying, perjury, subverting justice, cronyism, undermining our constitution, and no-bid contracts no sited for conflict of interest.

I do wonder why the Hispanic community hasn't really asserted itself in terms of support for Gonzo. I don't know if this is prejudice but there is a very blind side of perception, here. Just like Rice never get's any credit for being the highest black femaie ranking official in this Administration. Good post. Thanks. - Reply to this comment
- Every time an article is posted contrary to your biased point of view, it's always discredited.

Well, how is that any worse then immediately accepting it as the gospel because it fits in with your political beliefs, as you have done? Should we assume then if I check some of the liberal OpEd pieces from 'The Nation' you'll not be in there giving your opinion and trying to discredit it?
Again, you give yourself much more leeway than you allow to others to have. Perhaps if you kept more in line with the advice you offer you might be taken seriously. - Reply to this comment
- Do you ever wonder why the neonazi nutjob Cheney isn't running as the logical choice in '08?
Its just wierd none of the nutjobs pesters him to run for the presidency. You'd think he would be their first choice. - Reply to this comment
- The country is at war. The commander-in-chief and his agents have to be able to listen in on the enemy. Our surveillance appears to have played an important role in disrupting at least two terrorist plots. But our ability to wage this part of the war has gotten progressively weaker as it has continued. The program narrowed first because of legal objections by the Justice Department, and then because of the political fallout from the New York Times%u2019s reporting. We fear that it will grow weaker still now, because Democrats who ought to know better insist on playing %u201Cgotcha%u201D with the attorney general.

- Let me ask you something in all seriousness: do you see yourself as impartial, unbiased and even-handed in your posts? If you do - you're simply deluded. If you don't and understand your political biases, why is it you're free to say and post as you see fit, but you want people like myself to "shoo?"
Thanks in advance.

You can post as much as you like as often as you like and as biased as you like. I don't mind anyone refuting a point of view, but you make an point of it. Every time an article is posted contrary to your biased point of view, it's always discredited. It's always some right winger lying to you and the whole lot of the rabid lefties. You all seem to posses the truth. What you all posses is a rabid irrational viewpoint that deserves to be silenced on occasion, even if it is expressed in a singular world like SHOOOOOO! - Reply to this comment

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll keep posting just the same. You don't like it? Too bad.

- I would guess the latter of these two possibilities is the more likely.

- Problem is that bush is no FDR (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and the growing majority of progressive and awakened Americans do not trust him, do not like him and realize what an unAmerican individual he is-more of a dictator than a Representative of the People. We up here in Massachusettes never did take kindly to Kings named George and this one is as dumb and as arrogant as the last one....and has to go.

So, a shameless propaganda piece from the ultra-pro Bush, pro-Iraq war, pro-GOP NRO (the same organzation who in 2005 claimed in Iraq we were "winning") is re-published in the OpEd section of the CBSNews website and magically it makes all the problems of the Bush administration go away?
Or could it be the Bush sychophants are SO desperate for good news they overinflate the importance of what is really a throw away piece designed to defend the administration? One that no one would even put their name on?
I would guess the latter of these two possibilities is the more likely. - Reply to this comment
- Well, I see posts by a couple of 20 percenters, but it looks like most of us are sick of the lies and sick of this administration.
I sure wish there was a presidential recall mechanism. - Reply to this comment
