ggoheen...bulletin...most religion is based on lies. Some more benevolent than others, but still lies. The gods were either other humans from more advanced civilizations here on this world (Egypt, China, Sumeria, etc.), massive volcanoes blowing their tops (Thera, Tiede, Mt. Etna, Vesuvius, etc.), or wonders in the sky from a very large and active comet that was breaking up over thousands of years and bombing us like Tunguska in 1908. We pass through its remains twice a year every year...the Taurid Meteor Swarm... and Comet Encke is its closest relation. Al Sharpton and all other so called religious folks are either con artists or themselves conned. Much evil in the world has been wrought in the name of religion.

"There is not a single shred of proof that The Book of Mormon is true..."
--ggoheen

And you have "proof" that Moses's stone bible or Muhammad's Qur'an or Constantine's new bible are "true"? How about the news as reported by CBS?

Unfortunately, we often discern truth based upon brand names. CBS and Hebrew Bible are good brand names; apparently, Mormon is not.

Give it more time and marketing and the Mormons will be rehabilitated--just like the other Christians, etc.

Rove has managed to construct a Republican party so narrow and bigoted that the the Democratic party looks like a tent big enough to hold the entire left, far left, center left, center, and right of center comfortably together without any awkwardness. Voters across a wide spectrum would be so relieved to return to a secular government focused on management rather than theology that they will peacefully coinhabit, for now, whatever arrangement will bring it back.

As for Mormonism, Romney was elected as a Mormon Republican governor to the most Democratic and Catholic state in the Union, Massachusetts, precisely because Democratic voters don't give a hoot about the details of Mormonism. The separation of church and state, like the Bill of Rights, is the gift from Jefferson that keeps on giving...

"The governor should switch teams altogether and run as a Democrat."

Wishful thinking on the part of the gop.

Regardless of Romney's "problems" as a candidate, he is the most intelligent candidate they have. He is likely sufficiently centrist to fit under the democrats "big tent" but well understands that any attempt to switch parties at this point in his career would be political suicide.

This puppy is yours.

Second point: the Sharpton incident is irrelevant.

Sharpton was not speaking politically at the time. His comments were directed to a spiritual debate with an avowed atheist (Hitchens) on the question of the existence of god. Hitchens, his opponent, kept trying to turn the question to the issue of religious dogmas and subsequently introduced a political remark. Sharpton's remark was an offhand response made as a retort to Hitchens' comment.

Whatever the "appropriateness" of Sharpton's remark, it wasn't relevant to the ongoing political campaign nor illustrates any great question of religious doctrine.

However, the "play" given the item certainly suggests to what extent Romney's mormonism is a sensitive issue for self-described "christians", especially among the gop.

Michelle Cottle is obivious a democrat, who's afraid of Romney. And it's the liberal media who can't get over that fact that he's a sweaky clean mormon who has been only been married once.

Give it a rest, people. We're talking about whether you would VOTE for Romney, who happens to be a Mormon--not whether you would have his baby!

What you need to beware of is not a Mormon, but a lying attorney running for office. Oh wait, everyone running for office went to law school. AND they're all liars in one way or another.

No wonder more than half of Americans don't vote for anyone in presidential elections.

Yeah, let's not vote for someone based on their religion--that's easier to live with.

I know enough that although Joseph Smith said polygamy was a command from God,(instead of his own sexual depravity),the church later refuted it. If they don't believe this part, why do they believe any of it?

If you do your research you will see that the Mormons were greatly persecuted. It was common for the men to be seperated from their wives and children and killed, just because they were Mormon. That left a lot of single women with children and no man to take care of them in a way only a man could do. At that time the Mormons were commanded to take multilpe wives, as a way to have these women and children taken care of.

Of course those with perverse minds will only see this as a sexual perversion and not see it for what it truly was.

Were there men who married multiple times for other reasons, absolutely, but that is not why the Mormon church instigated the practice.

Get the facts, the real facts, then make a decision.

- The Book of Mormon is a history of the people on the American Continent who lived at the same time as the people of the Bible. Is that so hard to believe and accept?

Ummm....yea...it is.

What is so hard about it? You do not believe there were people on the American continent at that time? Or you do not think they knew how to record their history?

On the other post you had a hard time with, if you don't get it... I can't explain it so you will.

What do you know about Mormonism? Do you know anything for yourself about it? Do you know anything about it, or do you feel this way because they are different than you?

When I was in high school the kids with the fastest cars never told anyone how fast they were, those with the slow cars told everyone their car was like lightning. I like you name.

No one who can swallow this fictional religion created by Joseph Smith should be elected to anything. Mormonism is just a little below Scientology.

Personally, I believe that God must have called Joseph Smith to be His prophet; no one else would have thought of him.

Funny, yet true.

Another place, or two, a lot of people seem to have problems with;
-Joseph Smith was said to be a prophet who God revealed His will to, and the Mormons say they have just such a prophet today in Gordon B. Hinckley. It is so hard for people to believe God cares about his children and wants to talk with them, even though those same people believe that exact thing happened, as they believe in the Bible and the Bible Prophets.

However, Mitt Romney's conservative base feel that religion is everything when it comes to the ability to govern.

In the middle of those two extremes are most Americans, and me.

America needs a person who is willing to govern/legislate based on the Constitution, the document that truly keeps America free. We do not need politicians who govern based on misinterpretations of their holy book!

Posted by acauble1

You say you are in the middle but then you say
"We do not need politicians who govern based on misinterpretations of their holy book!"

Here you show ignorance and bias. You allude that Mitt will govern based on his religion, but you have obvioulsy not looked into Mitt's political past .

Your statement "misinterpretations of their holy book" shows you have bias but also shows you either have been reading or listening to those who know not what they talk about or you are just guessing what Mormons believe in. If it is their Holy book, how do they misinterpret it? Are you saying you have read it and know what it says and they get it wrong? Or are you guessing what it is as you have not read it?

Why not look deeper into those things you talk about before you show your ignorance?
