The New Republic: Why Are Republicans More Skeptical, Even As Evidence Grows?
- I imagine that Dr. James Hansen, Director of the NASA-Goddard Institute of Space Science is rather displeased by Al Gore's campaign, though I am sure he won't come out and say so publicly. Dr. Hansen was among the first, at least first prominently, who suggested in the 1980s that Global Warming presented a challenge in the coming decades and provided some areas of evidence where humans might be accountable for its increase. Since that time, the issue has taken on a life of its own and Al Gore has turned into a cancerous growth on an otherwise worthy scientific topic.
The result of these 25 years of topical acceleration, is that the messenger becomes so despised for his tone, that the message gets lost. I know many of the environmental zealots don't think they've lost the message, but the ranting and raving over it illustrate that the message really is *POOF!* Gone!!
Too bad. The shrill panic of the Planetary Emergency makes the issue laughable at best and impossible to deal with rationally at worst. Most of the good scientists in this area are probably ignoring it because to get caught up in it is relegate oneself to the cesspool of academia. Eventually, though, the wise among them will be left with little choice but step in with the "Here's what's really going on" truth of the matter. In fact, that is already beginning. - Reply to this comment
- I don't believe that Republicans have as much issue with intelligent debate on Global Warming, as much as who is championing its cause. I am happy to listen to a panel of scientists discuss the issues & potential solutions. I am not eager to celebrate Al Gore & Hollywood who tells me to sacrifice, when they have no intention of doing so themselves. The idea of carbon offsets is ***. It is like dumping toxic waste in a local stream, while claiming- "it's ok, I paid someone to plant 1000 trees in another country." When you choose to fly private jets, drive limos, and use 10 times more electricity in one of your three homes than I use in a year- please don't lecture me on Global Warming. When Al Gore reduces his energy consumption to even twice that of an average American & then spends even 1% of his income on "carbon offsets" then I will listen to him. Then he will not just be "neutral" but will be working towards helping the problem. Then he won't be a hypocrite, but have something to actually say.

"Gosh, even you had to preface your nonsensical assertion by saying ALMOST. "
Well, that comes from my honest effort to maintain perspective. But it just doesn't get through.
"Okay, but if your example wasn't so inappropriate, you might make more headway with your argument."
True, but there comes a point where being rational falls short, so a blunt proclamation seems necessary. Don't mean to offend anyone needlessly, but anybody who understands what I am saying should have no trouble agreeing with the basic idea that self-doubt, self-incrimination is not the way to go with this issue. - Reply to this comment

'Cause I gotta tell ya, I've never said or thought anything remotely like that. - Reply to this comment
- "Nothing wrong with the analogy. What I mean is that the practice of self-blame is wrong."
Okay, but if your example wasn't so inappropriate, you might make more headway with your argument. For me, I'm so turned off by your distasteful reference to rape, that I pretty much stop considering anything else you have to say. - Reply to this comment

- Those who proclaim that global warming is the fault of human action are like victims of rape who wrongly assume the blame for the crime committed against them.
It's WRONG

Dude. What's wrong is that analogy. - Reply to this comment
- God Is Knowledge, to deny his existence is as preposterous as denying your very own existence!
To deny God's control of the sun as outrageuous as saying that humans are responsible for the its energy output! - Reply to this comment
