The Nation: Only Time Will Tell, But Bush Is Running A Good Race To The Bottom
- President Bush failed in the following areas:
1. In Texas, he worked with the then Democratic majority to govern Texas and accomplished a lot; (2) he failed to get a wide range of opinions not only from his trusted cabal but from others with different views. I understand that for a long time, he would assemble folks from different backgrounds not to have them contribute to to explain how different decisions were arrived at. If you turn into the sound bites of these meetings, he is the only one that talks. (3) he tends to stay in a state of denial far too long, (4) polls are now pretty accurate. They serve as an indication as to what the American people feel yet he says he ignores them. We will have to contend with resulting major crises for years to come. - Reply to this comment
- dhadaway says that "President Bush will be remembered as a man who stood up and fought evil in the world." Explain to me what the definition of evil is, and how others believe, pray, and live their lives & who decides the evilness of a culture? "He is one of the few politicians who recognize the threat of militant Islam-and has done something about it." Again, who's authority did all this occur? It is an established FACT that the war in Iraq was based solely on lies, so what is the problem here and who created it? You? Me? Us? Them? Iraq has had it's share of problems, but that is what happens in war. Tell me something, do you support prayer in public schools or preyer in government sanctioned lies? The US cannot and will not sit idle as its citizens are targeted around the world. Who decided "we" are not going to sit idle and let others govern themselves as they see fit? Imagine if you would what would happen if China and the middle east decided to liberate the oil fields in Texas? What would YOU do? By choosing to fight it, you say Bush invites the wrath of terrorists. Well, I would rather we have a president who chooses to fight evil than sit by and watch poll numbers. It did neither and both, God bless you, Mr. President. 9/11 will not be forgotten, nor will the spilled blood of our brave and fearless American soldiers. In other countries where the US intervened, they feel the EXACT SAME WAY YOU DO...imagine that? Keep up the fight. And they do.

- There is no need to try to convince the 28% of Americans that still think George W Bush is failed. They are sheeple who would vote for a stuffed animal if it said it had values and believed in God. Notice how sheeple take issue with thinking for themselves.
The other group is the percentage of people that have benefitted from his lopsided tax policy. For some reason the ultra rich forget that like good and evil there is a balance in economic income distribution. Sooner or later income inequality will reverse. If it doesn't through goverment policy, it will come from the people who have had enough of this *** and will start revolution.
Those evangelicals must now have the passages or verses I remember in the Bible as a child. What was the verse about being rich, passing through the eye of a needle and a camel? I remember the meek shall inherit the earth.
I also remember learning about to beware of false prophets.
I cannot wait for this presidency to end. Hopefully we can all move on quickly. - Reply to this comment
- George W Bush is the worst president and we will pay for his blunders and failed policies for generations to come.
Due to Gitmo, there may be international criminal trials of various Bush administration officials thus continuing our erosion of credibility in the world community.
With our increase in government debt we will continue to see erosion of the dollars value and will more than likely see a fallout in the value of the dollar versus the euro.
Due to his attack of the U.S. constitution and our civil liberties, it may take decades to reverse the damage.
As time passes we will find there will be more than the 600000 Iraqi and 3000 American service member deaths. By the time the war is over with there may be more than 1 million Iraqis dead and 7000 American servce member deaths.
Due to the dumbing down of our students in our educational system with No Child Left Behind, we will see growing income inequity in the United States.
Due to a failed energy policy, we will find inaction with the American auto industries due to lack of being able to compete with more energy efficient vehicles. Ford Motor will become bankrupt and subject merger. Gasoline will move to a regular average of $3-$4 a gallon making us dream of the days of $2 gas.
Do I need to continue? I could go on and on--this is what we get when a President was appointed by the Supreme court. He had no legi
timacy in the first. God have mercy on us all. - Reply to this comment
- that's "minority", sorry, it used to be a majority when he had the country fooled pre-2nd year of the war. those days of 90% approval sure got shot to hell by his sick twisting of the truth into a murky pile of half truths and outright lies! It's amazing that 70% of the people who supported him in 03 have turned against him, along with the 10% who were right all along.

- So, real hard working AMERICANS can have the gov't represent them and SUE all these people at the TOP of the money making club who've made millions or billions in some cases at the expense of the taxpayer, correct? I sure hope so, because they've ripped off Americans from gas prices, to the energy policy that F'd us over in Cali, and elsewhere, and hurt the workers' rights more than any "leader" before him.
He's a sham of a man. A shame to the USA, and a joke in EVERY bar, restaurant, and civic center you go to now, sorry bush-fans, you're a very slim majority.
WHY? Because more and more of you daily are either realizing you're getting screwed by their policies, or you realize he's destroying our way of life. - Reply to this comment
- George Bush is easily the worst president of the last 120 years. Not because of the war. He's right in trying to establish some democracies in the Middle East, if that doesn't succeed we will be fighting a world war 10 times worse in 20, 40, or 220 years. However domestically he has led the most cold hearted, corrupt, detached, unresponsive government in at least 120 years, as far as the american people are concerned. (other than the 2% of the richest americans who have benefitted alot during his presidency. Our children will be paying for the greed of these men and thier benefactors for decades to come. It may prove to be the years history remembers as the death of America and the birth of corporate world control. Our economy is not healthy because of the tax cuts. It's healthy because of world-wide corporate expansion. Still, the numbers of americans without health insurance, without shelter, and witout good working conditions and fair wages continues to grow like uncontrolled weeds. He's not smart enough, kind enough, or responsive enough to be an adequate president.

- singinrick, Bush has done nothing to hurt miltant islam. His main legacy is attacking one of the very, very, very few middle eastern countries that was NOT infested with militant islam and terrorists!
No matter how often he likes to slyly mention Iraq and 9/11 in the same sentence, the fact remains that Saddam Hussein always was AlQueda's enemy, not in the least, not in any way, their ally. They hated him for having a secular government - based on Saddam as a dictator to be sure, but with nothing at all to do with militant islam!
Afghanistan and the Taliban - they're our enemies. Saudi Arabia had and may well still have the madrassas and clerics turning out terrorists and militants with government support, including our 9/11 hijackers and plenty of donations to AlQueda. Iraq was involved in none of it. - Reply to this comment
- Others may be nearly worst for not acting, but he has done more active harm to America, here and abroad than almost any two other presidents. He has made both overt and hidden assaults on the laws and Constitution of the US. His foreign policy is simply playing a bully. His manufactured evidence to attack Iraq took longer to be disclosed, when the Congressional leadership abdicated their role as a coequal branch for 6 years. If he's not the worst, it's not for lack of effort. He made significant headway toward the true unitary executive, a king or dictator.
His status is more complex than the simple terms sociopath, delusional or megalomania can convey. If psychiatric examination were required, I'd expect it to result in long-term hopefully voluntary treatment. Some of his behavior would be troubling in a person with a rock. He's got control of a nuclear arsenal. If he's not the worst, he's likely the craziest. - Reply to this comment
- Heh - someone brought up 'liberal media' again. Funny. Notice how Hastert can fly in an air force plane without any fuss, and Pelosi, flying in precisely the same plane as Hastert often used is hit with a bunch of stories about how she wants this huge plane? The worst possible interpretation - which was completely wrong (she made no request for the plane, a Republican appointed, Republican security guy did, and he didn't ask for the big plane either, just one of 3) - was spread by all the news agencies. Yeah, liberal media.
And the way they've been complicit in hiding all of Bush's failings - from letting him hide the casualties of war, to reporting as if true his allegations about nuclear programs in Iraq - the media is owned and operated by conservatives - sure, most of the lower down types are liberals - but the owners, the editors - the people who decide what gets printed - they are conservatives. - Reply to this comment

I take exception to this derogatory remark about Bush being a relative of an ape and a donkey for you have just insulted two species of animals that are know to be intelligent and hard working. - Reply to this comment
- There have been many a dead-beat president, all of whom possessed that uncanny combination of incompetence and lack of intellectual vigor. Our problem certainly isn't the fact our current resident struggles to articulate reasonably without a handy teleprompter. No. Our problems run much deeper. Our boy came along at a crucial time in history. At the very moment that we experienced a crisis in need of a leader, we got George W. Bush. Captain Codpiece will challenge all others for the title of worst ever, not because of the incompetence and corruption, though plenty of evidence in those categories can be found, but because of the damage and destruction he and his cronies will have wreaked. A fiscal crisis created by his policies, when he inherited a huge budget surplus. A Middle East completely ripped apart by chaos as a result of a war of choice brilliantly executed by the troops by totally botched by the post-war administrators and diplomats. And that's not to mention a proud American city that still lies in ruin and in need of rebuilding. His destruction and the generations it will take to repair the damage. That's the legacy of the current office holder.

- Read 1984 Orwell.
Our Mainstream "News" is complete Propaganda.
The Death toll for our US Soldiers is NOWHERE near accurate. The numbers are make believe.
Understand- America is a FASCIST TYRANNY.
We need to be making bunkers, making bomb shelters, building treches, amassing weapons, and building militias.
The Elite rule America. Their goal is WW3 and amassing Wealth upon the way. Here's the best part - once WW3 starts... the Elite will get the hell out of the Country and we'll be left to Fight their War. - Reply to this comment
- The fact that Liberals and the Liberal Media hate Bush so violently tells me he's probably been a pretty good president.
Clinton is probably the worst president we've had when you realize that 9/11 can be laid at his feet because he had plenty of intel and opportunities to stop Bin Laden.
9/11 never had to happen.
Can you imagine if Clinton had been president during 9/11? He probably would have apologized to Bin Laden for offending him so badly that he attacked us. - Reply to this comment
- "Worst President Ever?"
I can remember Harry S. Truman, and all that followed him. The chimp is by far the worst. History will remember him as a self indulging, self centered, uncaring, boob.
The chimp is this countries worst enemy, OSB is a piker compared to the chimp.
Every piece of legislation he has fought for has been for either big business, or to further his terrorist lies.
9/11 was a lie, terrorism is a lie, Iraq was a lie, his appointees were jokes, homeland security is unecessary, and they are not looking for OSB any more.
I am really thankful that the cold war was over before he took office. The chimp would have killed half the worlds population, during those times. - Reply to this comment
- Wayfed, really no offence taken.
Here's the thing. I didn't vote for Bush. I never would. I didn't support his war. I was protesting in the February cold before the war started becuase I felt that we were being misled.
Bush is no doubt the worst president I have seen since I was born in the early sixties, but I still support him in that he is our president. We have to pray that he does well, at least as far as foreign affairs go. His success there is every Americans success. I truly beleive for him to be successful he will have to change his foreign policy. That is what we are called on to call on him to do. So I support him with prayers from where I stand on the Christian left. - Reply to this comment
