It is interesting that Obama has to worry about this. He is a very credible candidate. Is well spoken and educated. He is also self made. This rubs Jackson and Sharpton all wrong because he is supposed to come to them for their support, after all they know all the answers, and resent his new kid on the block popularity. Obama also shows them up as look at me I am also black and I have made it, why can't you. It also shows the difference in how white parents and black parents raise their kids. He was "raised white." I will vote for him if he is on the ballot. it is time for the blacks of America to stop beating the boring drum of slavery and racism and all the other garbage in between. Step up to the plate and be Americans-trust me the blacks in Africa don't want you back or want to even know you!!!!

It is down to laziness why blacks don't do better. Look at Bill Cosby, he made it and what he says is absolutley "RIGHT!"
Obama doesn't have to defend himself to anyone or any race, he needs to be just himself.

...liberals focus on all things superficial - everything comes down to how it looks, how it makes you look, or how it feels; rarely does any substantive matter factor into the discussion. While you may well disagree with thier views, it is clear to any observer that people like Powell, Rice, Clarence Thomas & other minorities have received Republican backing on the basis of their qualifications and/or how well they reflect the Republican viewpoint. Obama may be a great guy, heck Pelosi might be a great speaker - but at the end of the day it doesn't matter to liberals... because all they see is your gender, your race, your class, etc... Diversity is a virtue & a goal unto itself that requires no further examination... everything else is secondary.

This editorial shows an unhealthy obsession with racial stereotyping and categorization. Maybe its not the race, but simply the behavior, communication skills, and intelligence that matters. Politicians of all races will accept that these values are universal and uniformly applied.

We should get off the race infatuation and focus on human qualities that are positive and desired.

Caddilackid says: "who in the hell cares what white america thinks? Who the hell are they? Take the blacks, mexicans, latinos combined; whites are now the minority in this country, again who cares what they think."
Mr. Caddilackid - I don't know what planet you are living on - but in THIS world the USA has a population of 300 million. 220 million of those are white, 36 million are black, 39 million are hispanic and the other 5 million are Asian or Native American. 220 million out of 300 million are NOT a minority in any strectch of the imagination. I suggest you check the US census data before you post outlandish racist statements. How would you like to read a statement like "Who in the hell cares what blacks think"? I don't imagine you'd like it at all - you would probably consider it a racist statement. Well, it is. And so is yours. This country has had enough of racist claptrap. Wise up.

To Duckswill,

I think the title is a bit off. But, if you read the story, there are some truths in it.

To Kalatur1,

The bar was set pretty low already thanks to GW. No experience is actually better than bad experience.

"Race should not matter. I'm tired of everyone being racist."

- I agree, but unfortunately it is still. This is me just being a realist. Additionally, like a drug or alcohol problem, most who suffer are in denial. There are a lot of lingering problem still left over from many centuries of racial misunderstanding. One of those is calling Obama black. He is actually as white as he is black. This notion that being 50% black and 50% white makes you 100% black is something out of the 1700s when slaveholders needed to make more slaves and decided that their sperm would work just fine and was free to use.

Who even knows Obama's position on the issues. We are too busy congratulating ourselves for being color blind.

It seems to me the bar is set pretty low if Obama is so high in the polls with almost no experience, no claims to fame other than seeming vaguely "honest" and "trustworthy".

Insightful, but Harold lost because he was single and the miscegenation card was used efectively.
