Never, ever vote for a Republican to elected office. You see what happened on 911.

We could have gone another route. We could have built on the profound sympathy and empathy that swept through the world following the attacks. The revulsion over the crimes that took place 10 years ago, including in the Muslim world was nearly universal.

The attacks, if we had turned them over to intelligence agencies and diplomats, might have opened possibilities not of war and death but ultimately reconciliation and communication, of redressing the wrongs that we commit in the Middle East and that are committed by Israel with our blessing. It was a moment we squandered.

Our brutality and triumphalism, the byproducts of nationalism and our infantile pride, revived the jihadist movement. We became the radical Islamist movement's most effective recruiting tool. We descended to its barbarity. We became terrorists too.

The sad legacy of 9/11 is that the ********, on each side, won.

I think it's disrespectful to post something this controversial on the anniversary of 9/11. This armchair quarterback thinks he could have done better, eh? Well it's easy enough to say it. Quite another to do it, to sit in the Oval office and make the decisions.

This author is clever and intelligent and has presented a persuasive argument, but the liberals always leave some things out of their reasoning. Such as: the terrorists don't value any lives including their own. And: dialogue only gives terrorists more time to get their plan of destruction together... they don't intend to give an inch or compromise one bit of anything, they only want to see how much they can squeeze out of the situation that will benefit them.

There is such a thing as pure Evil, and it only wants to destroy. This, too, the liberals fail to recognize and I'm not sure why they ignore it. Are they afraid to believe it?? They seem to believe completely that world peace is possible and there's enough goodness in mankind to pull it off. It's a nice dream, but it's not reality.

I think President Bush faced up with Reality and dealt with it as Realistically as he could. Thank God he was our President during this national tragedy and crisis.

It is times like this that I am truly embarrassed to be an American. We let out country go down the tubes when we let the neocon GOP Bush Crime Family do that coup in 2000.

What did anybody expect of a president whose Daddy bought his way out of active military service, and who didn't even bother to sober up for reserve drill every month.

George W. Bush learned nothing from his own generation's war (Vietnam) because he spent the whole war drunk and partying.

First, I'm shocked that CBS would run a piece of any kind by Chomsky. Congratulations! The reasoning here, it seems to me, is very clear and based upon sound principles, but for those bred on a diet of MSM, like it seems most of those who commented above, the conclusions are apt to be deeply disturbing. Not to oversimplify, but Chomsky, for the most part, is just invoking the golden rule - how would we feel if they treated us the way we treated them? What is truly shocking is that this most basic of questions, especially I think for those who call themselves Christian, seems so far foreign, so far out of the realm of popular discussion.

Well, they are '************' in some people's mind who are worth less that a (white) American, so who cares what they think!

Seriously, I have heard some conservatives actually spouting that bullplop and I have to severely check myself to refrain from reaching over the table and going "BAP BAP!" to their face.

The effort of Islam to take over the world, means that there will NEVER be an end to the war on terror.

I believe that Iran is highly likely to start WW 3, and that the entire globe will be engulfed in a horrendous war, as Islam has infiltrated into all parts of the globe.

Iran? Sorry, not very likely. In fact, NO COUNTRY in the world is likely to start World War III more than the United States.

TOTALLY ABSURD! The US has the largest military in the world. What other nation invades and occupies a fraction of what the US does? Islam is a religion, not a superpower like the US . The comparison is ridiculous. The attacks of 9/11 were horrible, but just a fraction of the disaster inflicted by the us on other nations. The US is used to bombing other nations, not being bombed.

And to think all of this would have been avoided if airlines would have done the right thing in the 1970s and reinforced the cockpit doors so nobody could have gotten into the cockpit. It would have been that simple. A bunch of fanatics with box cutters may have killed a passenger or two, but they would have never been able to take over the planes and crash them into the twin towers, the Pentagon or the field in Pennsylvania.

Blame the airlines and the politicians that did not force them to take some simple hijacking precautions. That is the real crime of 9/11.

BINGO! That is all they needed to do: make the cockpit doors bullet- and pick-proof and DONE!

Americans, especially the ones running the country at the time of 911 are the stupidest, most uneducated, negligent, corrupt and un-evolved primates who ever walked the earth. I mean Republicons and their rich corporate masters who do nothing good for the earth.
