This comment is so true and all you have to do is watch one installment of Leno's Jay-Walking segment on the Tonight Show to know that the American electorate is just plain dumb, stupid, or ignorant when it comes to most things. We are probably no further along than we were in the 20s in many ways, but we have the advent of internet and new technology tools to spread the ignorance faster, i.e., the birthers.

Thanks you CBS for being honest regarding where Kazin is coming from. All media has bias, and my only gripe is that most of the time the media is not honest about it. Kazin is coming from a left wing perspective, and he is entitled to have what ever opinion he wishes.
However, Independents (I am a conservative Independent) do have a clue. Polls show that they are running away from President Obama in mass.
Perhaps this article is written by a media party hack for other party hacks. Both political parties are presently failing the nation. Neither party seems to have a "clue" how to turn the ship of state around. Financially it's sinking fast. Independents at least have the sense to step away from disunity and self destructive pathetic party politics. Rich & smart independents certainly won't go down with the ship. They'll jump ship, join the BRIC, and laugh all the way to the bank.
I am unsure of the difference between an Independent and a Republican. Both are by definition self-absorbed, easily lead, selfish, uncaring, and generally lack enough knowledge to make an intelligent assessment of the problems facing America. If they were not, they would be a Democrat.

I am glad to see some factual observations about just how ignorant so many voters in America are. Why else would anyone ever vote for an oily, lying, corrupt Republican? I like the way Thom Hartmann describes independents: politically ignorant and clueless.
If the mean average IQ is 100, and 95%-ish of IQs fall in between 70 and 130... then you have to show conclusively that you have eliminated the people of BELOW average intelligence from the equation before you spout off. It would be interesting to see what, "How to lie with Statistics" measures were used as well as the ENTIRE questions that were likely carefully crafted to skew the results (as surveys often are). I have known smart people that are Democrats AND Republicans AND Independents. This article is the most biased, ridiculous, and prejudicial piece of tripe that I've ever read. THAT is certainly saying something.
I know plenty of very smart people who are so caught up in making money and consuming, they don't even know that we have a corrupted election system that is run by the same filthy rich people who run the media, the military and the government for maximum profits. Using our tax money, too. They actually think we have some kind of democracy and freedoms here. Imagine how dumb we activists think these people are. Clueless, fat and happy.
