Any nation that that takes the political opinions of actors, sports stars, rock musicians and other celebrities as important advice on policy is showing the signs of its decline.

So when those actors (Reagan) ex jocks (Bunning) rock musicians (Bono), without the benefit of further education, become politicians, then you decide to respect them?

Pathetic ASPD symptom.

No, Reagan was the dumbest individual ever to hold the presidency; I know little about Bunning or Bono, so I don't comment. In that respect, I'm unlike you, brianbwb.

He is wrong about this. Japan attacked us because we refused to sell them scrap metal which they would make weapons from to kill the Chinese which ofcourse was the democrats fault because had republicans been in power they would sell them all the scrap metal they wanted as long as they got to watch the killing.

It was not a war between different religions. The Japanese government was bent on imperialistic expansion. their military committed horrible atrocities everywhere they went. They attacked us. In combat they were brutal and refused to surrender. U.S. forces had to kill them all or almost all to take the objectives. Captured U.S. personnel were brutally treated or executed. We did not treat their prisoners or the German prisoners that way. To say that our veterans were racists is truly an ignorant statement on Mr. Hanks part.

There is no controversy. WWII was about Aryan supremacy and imposition of Nazi force allied with Japanese Militants and Spanish and Italian Nationalist Movements, all of which attacked Christians, Jews, and all other faiths as subject to their own power.

Despite all the rationalizations, the imposition of control over peoples to get at the resources of their country under a centralized war machine....racism was used as a qualifier for death. It has always been so during war, civilized under the Geneva Conventions or not. A simple truth whether uttered by an actor Tom Hanks, or a fool, Rush Limbaugh...does not color it untrue.

The Japanese strapped civilians to the front of their tanks and gun emplacements when the Americans were coming to liberate Manila...that
along with the Me Lai massacre in South Vietnam during the Viet Nam War is another extreme. No people or nationality is immune when war is in practice by governments upon eachother and the civilians.

Mao said Power comes out of the mouth of a cannon... but all faiths deny the benefit of war. It is not that war brings peace, but peace comes when war provides sufficient destruction to make it not worthy.

Americans hate to hear that they are doing anything wrong, ever. I agree that the Japanese were the imperial aggressors and extremely brutal in WWII, and I agree that they were completely racist in their world view, some say they still are. But Americans were not only racist in their view of Japanese, but also in their view of our own black soldiers, who were in segregated units while training and serving, they were restricted in all kinds of ways while in the military, and they were treated very badly back home even while in their uniforms, unable to get off trains in southern towns, prevented from eating in white restaurants, prevented from going to the bathroom in white establishments, etc. etc. etc. I heard one report that blacks usually got the jobs of unloading explosives from ships, because they often went off and killed soldiers. So all you sanctimonious Americans bashing Mr. Hanks need to step back and get a grip on reality. He may have been inartful, but you show no knowledge of American racial history either.

This is not the truth is, ?Japan had no choice but to attack us in 1941?. They had a choice not to attack us and chose to attack us. We put an oil embargo on them, which was not going to destroy their country but it would have stopped them from waging war on China, the Pacific Islands, and South East Asia?s. ?We also committed the largest terrorist attack in history on Japan?, your one of the people that don?t deserve to like in the USA. You are clueless to why we dropped the bomb then and I will not waste my time giving you a history lesson. You make me sick.

As usual, Tom Hanks has drawn a large audience. Back in WWII days, the only time racism was mentioned was in reference to our own black Americans.
The Atom bombs sought to wipe out whole cities, women, children, everyone. That can only be the outcome of hate!
