Folks---You must know that minds won''''t be changed here but can''''t we all at least wish the newlyweds well?Common decency dictates that we hope for thier happiness---even if you don''''t agree with their marriage. For crying out loud, life''''s too short....

I am glad you are so sure of yourself. People like you make me even more sure I am correct in apposing calling these civil unions of convenience " marriage". You make a joke of a honored institution. In a democracy the majority must agree. The majority does not see a need to humor the whims of fringe elements of society. Black people were slaves and it was wrong. You are not a slave nor have you suffered except under your own delusions.

You know nothing about me

Posted by BlackYowe at 10:58 PM

I only know what you post here, but that''s almost too much to bear.

You despise gay people and democrats in general. That''s pretty clear. You say you have gay friends but if that means you simply tolerate them and don''t respect their relationships then you''re not a friend, you''re merely an acquaintance. You think by not crucifying gay people you''re being tolerant. Let me tell you something - you''ll have to do a lot better than that to be a friend, in fact, you''ll have to do a lot better than that to be HUMAN.

Respect others. Respect their choices, their rights and their dignity. Ellen got married. Legally. It''s official, and it''s just as valid as any other marriage on the books, at least in Massachussetts and California. And here in our home state, our governor has proposed that New York respect the same-*** laws of other states, and I have no doubt that it will pass. That puts you in a pretty uncomfortable position. Do you continue to spew hatred or do you realize that you''ve been wrong all along and decide to respect others lives and dignity? Only time will tell.

You can''''t change a an institution that is thousands of years old just to suit your little insecure whims. Marriage came about for the sake of procreating. It remains a viable institution primarily to protect women and children within society. You come across as about 16 with a 6th grade education, IRLiberal

How exactly is accepting gay marriage changing the institution? How is going to hurt your or my marriage? Marriage did NOT come about for the sake of procreating. If procreation were really followed then monogamy is NOT the best way. Check out the animal kingdom for evidence of this. Most males will mate with any and every available female who''s willing. Some even have harems of females who all bear his offspring. SO it''s not procreation. Marriage was enshrined to promote monogamy and typically religious views. I would disagree that it was established to protect women so much as to keep the down. That''s why if a woman owned ANYTHING at some point in history, when she got married... it automatically became her husbands property and was no longer hers. That particular little bit of trivia didn''t change until very recently in the "thousands of years of marriage history."

You are simply denying the inevitable change simply because it doesn''t fit nicely in your little view of the world.

I imagine those in the south keeping slaves said many of the same things after they lost the Civil War. They weren''t right then, they aren''t right now, and neither are you.

IRLiberal, I have not derided or insulted anyone. I have Gay friends. Some of them even agree with me that Gay marriage is ridiculous. You are the bigot posting here. You know nothing about me and it seems very little about life.

IRLiberal you can''t change society or human nature to suit fashion. This is a fashion assessor for Gay people. Making something legal does not make it right and it does not change reality. I could make it legal to have an operation to become and Oak tree but I would never be one. You live in a fantasy world. This is all late 20th century affectation and arrogance. You can''t change a an institution that is thousands of years old just to suit your little insecure whims. Marriage came about for the sake of procreating. Bigotry is the new word you call someone who refuses to agree with you. It has no meaning in this discussion. I am not a Bigot, I am a realist. If I said I did not believe in Pink elephants would I be a bigot?

Posted by BlackYowe at 10:50 PM

Nope, a bigot is:

(noun)

One who is strongly partial to one''s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

And honey, that''s you, to a "T". You are the one trying to deride, degrade or otherwise invalidate others legal marriages. That makes you a B I G O T. I don''t apologize for being harsh, or if those shoes you are in are suddenly uncomfortable, but the first step, really, is realizing that you have a problem. As with so many things in life, the details are everything.

bigot

Main Entry:
big7ot
Pronunciation:
%u02C8bi-g%u0259t
Function: noun
Etymology: French, hypocrite, bigot
Date: 1660

: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
%u2014 big7ot7ed -g%u0259-t%u0259d adjective

BlackYowe... I don''t think that bigot is a new word, it''s just an accurate one for people who are prejudiced against a group of people.. in this case homosexuals. I understand that it''s difficult to face the truth... but there it is. BTW, this definition came from Merriam Webster''s site.

I live in NY. Gay marraige is not legal here

Posted by BlackYowe at 10:45 PM

I also live in New York. And it will be legal - in time. Gay rights have been steadily progressing without hardly a setback for the past thirty years - even during right wing regimes like the Bush administration.

''Cause you can''t stop
The motion of the ocean
Or the rain from above
They can try to stop ths paradise
We''re dreaming of
But you cannot stop the rhythm
Of two hearts in love to stay
You can''t stop the beat!

Quite correct. ALL opposition to gay marriage is rooted in bigotry. Some disguise it with the word "religion", but that''s usually just a scapegoat. They use a particular brand of religion to hide what they already feel - bigotry and intolerance to those different than they are.

Oldest story in the book.

IRLiberal, I neither won nor lost. I live in NY. Gay marraige is not legal here and since it does not exist how can it effect me in anyway? It seems you have lost, you have lost your mind.
