NYC Station's Hosts Called Chinese Restaurant And Made Lewd, Offensive Comments
- This is America. Its okay to make fun of everyone evenly except for certain circumstances. African-Americans helped build this country, it so happened that a great deal of that building was under slavery in which complete degradation occurred. We owe it to them to respect them over others simply because of past sacrifices. Asian Americans, and any other American for that matter do not get this kind of treatment. I say this as an Indian American whose ancestors had absolutely nothing to do with slavery, but still feels that, as an American born and raised in America, i owe them something for living in a country that is what it is today due to their contributions. I see the Simpsons stereotype Abu the Quickie Mart owner as well as many other little jibes at me and my kind, i think it is okay as long as its within reason. DO NOT FIRE THESE GUYS. THEY are simply doing what has always been done, sure the Asian Americans helped build the transcontinental railway, and i'm sure there were many other things they helped America do, but it is nothing compared to the sacrifice of slavery, and therefore no other group aside from the native americans should enjoy this type of respect.

- My goodness, what would happen if Roy D. Mercer ever threatened a can of whoop *** on somebody. Come on America LAUGH, LAUGH LAUGH, JUST ONCE.

- trutommo,
please read thoroughly before you comment. The article states:
"In the comments, made between May 3 and Monday, Torain %u2014 co-host of the "Star & Buc Wild Morning Show" %u2014 offered $500 to any listener who could provide information about the rival DJ's daughter's school and used racial slurs when talking about his wife, who is part Asian.
"I will come for your kids," Torain said, according to transcribed excerpts provided by Liu's office. "I finally got the information on his slant-eyed, *** wife."
Torain also called the couple's child a "little half a lo mein eater" and said he wanted to "do an R. Kelly on your seed, on your little baby girl. I would like to tinkle on her," according to the excerpts.
If you don't consider the terms "slant-eyed, *** wife" and "little half a lo mein eater" to be racist and offensive to the Asians, then you just refuse to see the truth. Sorry about that. - Reply to this comment

If you don't see how there's a difference between these two cases then you truly don't understand the difference between satire and a personal threat. - Reply to this comment
- More PC *** from CBS. This country needs to take a step back and relax. My goodness take a joke and get over it. Everybody is so thin skinned they are nearly transparent these days. Just think if everytime someone made a blonde joke, all the blondes got upset. Suppose all the Polish Americans got upset every time a Polock joke has been told over the years. The people of this country need to really relax and laugh a little bit.

- trutommo: please investigate further and you will see that he made racist jokes just as the folks did that you are defending.

- Misapp,
The article you posted what amounts to threats made by a DJ directed at a wife and child. The only thing that ties that story to this one is that a DJ is involved.
That is interesting though I hadn't seen that. Seems that New York radio is a big target these days. I think that radio is just an easy target, the typical episode of south park exploits more stereotypes than anything these guys have done. Maybe comedy has to be done in cartoon format now so whiners know that it is, indeed, just a joke. It's much harder to take on a nationally syndicated tv show than it is to take on some local radio hacks.
Still, in my opinion, they were suspended without pay, and apologized. Enough is enough. - Reply to this comment

...
Correct me if I am wrong, please, because I would hate to think that it IS a race issue.

Why not try to GET MORE DIFFERENT RACE PEOPLE IN THE MEDIA, then you might get your different race to be taken down a peg or two! LOL
A relatively FEW of the thousands of white and obnoxious media personalities get taken down a notch and we have white whining. LOL
Be quiet and take it like a man. Those media morons play hard and stupid, and they are made to pay the OCCASIONAL price. That's life! Now take it like a man and quit whining!
Nothing more disgusting that white whining! LOL - Reply to this comment
- Have you ever noticed that they only ever seem to go after the radio personalities that are white. I do not mean to make this into a race issue but I cannot recall a radio personality of a different race being taken down a peg or two for something they said or a stunt they pulled. Correct me if I am wrong, please, because I would hate to think that it IS a race issue.

When things like this happen, some people tend to complain about "how hard life is for white people" and how only whites are punished for wrong-doing. It is NOT a race issue.
And to rebut what you think about "whites only", here is one example you can refer to at http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,195202,00.html.
When something like this happens, some of us tend to want to portray minorities as the whiners and complainers, but the complainers here and in the Don Imus like cases tend to be white. - Reply to this comment
- these two juys should be fire right the way. CBS should be a shame with them...not just suspend them, fire them .......FIRE

Phoenix1218,
Unfortunately there does seem to be a bit of a race issue involved. While CBS is being encouraged to enforce this firing rule evenly, the standard rule on this very same radio station is that the N-word gets bleeped for everone EXCEPT if someone who happens to be black says it. (You can't make this stuff up...).- Reply to this comment
- "No reason to be fired over this one."
So, this one is okay and that last one wasn't okay?
What's the big deal, right? He's only insulting Asians this time... - Reply to this comment
- These guys have been around since forever. I used to listen to the "Dog House" 15 years ago when they were VERY big in San Francisco. This is nothing new. They have been doing phone pranks that pushed the envelope more than this one. Why don't people lighten up, I am a minority and even I know when someone is making a joke, even when it's in bad taste. No reason to be fired over this one.

- I don't bother listening to radio if any of these Howard Stern wannabees are on air. Stern always knew where to draw the line, but these frat boy posers who have no concept of the meaning of "on air personality", much less "deejay", will never get it right.

- FYI this is the infamous radio bit that caused all this, originally aired in San Francisco years ago.

- they are not any different from Howard Stern, or Opie and Anthony when they pulled the stunt about Mayor Menino in Boston, OR when WOW (Whip it Out Wednesday)or any other such stunts like that. Everybody laughs at it...is it right, you can only be the judge of you, but you know you laugh at it. Do you watch South Park, they make fun of the asian community on that show ALL the time as well as making fun of different faiths, nationalities, genders as well as making fun of *** and lesbians. The ONLY time I saw an uproar about South park was when there was the hwole to do about Tom Cruise and scientology.

- If you're asking me coach, if I think that radio jockeys are contributing to youth violence, I would say no, they do not.
You work with kids (I assume if you're a coach), ask them what radio shows they listen to. They don't; they have ipods.
So lets add radio to the list of things we can't do because it may inspire people to kill others: Music, Video Games, Television (every channel but PBS), Radio (every channel but NPR), Internet (including this forum)...
I refuse to give up my right to listen to music and drive my car because a few overstimulated psychopaths can't handle it. If that makes me insensitive, then sign me up.

some people are just crazy and kill people, theres no sense in it. Trying to point to reasons as a reasonable and rational person will get you nowhere, because your mindset is completely different then some maniac murderer. - Reply to this comment
- This stuff just isn't funny. Could these guys be any more stupid. This isn't about Al or Jessie it's about two real dumb white DJs.

- So you're saying verbal abuse/harrassment was NOT a contribting factor in the Columbine shootings, NOT a contributing factor when, last week, a Washington 6th grader brought his grandfather's pistol to school to "get even," and NOT a contributing factor when a student in a town a few miles down the road from mine created a list of fellow students he was planning to "hurt."
Yes! By all means, let's continue to feed the culture of harrassment and ridicule.
Get your head out of the sand. - Reply to this comment
