When the punishment is worse than the so-called "crime," than we need to change it. Why should Willie Nelson serve time for smoking pot, something millions of Americans do all the time. It seems ridiculous that adults have to hide like teenagers in order to smoke something that doesn't hurt anyone. Marijuana should be legal, this is very obvious considering the demand there is for it.
And we wonder why we have money problems all over this country. Texas has a huge state debt. This is an absolutley perfect example of the stupidity that is just killing this country. I'd like to see a poll of 1000 people asking wheather or not they give a rat's @ss if Wilie smokes grass. And by the way to all you idiots that think Willie is supporting violent drug cartels you're as lost as the moron judge doing this, Willie only smokes US grown, indoor dank. This country is plagued with ignorance so deep I swear half the population is inbred.
give me a break, drugs will never be legal, get usta it and go by the law. but, he should get off with a slam to the wrist. maybe $100 fine or something!
We (Texas) have almost the lowest expenditures per student of any state, we fired a BUNCH of teachers this year- yet we have the money to imprison to imprison old Willie, and others like him. Don't Mess with Texas. (and don't think Perry is a good candidate for President. our state is bottom-of-the-barrel under him. AND he takes it from the poor, who pay 3.5x (350%) more tax on gross income than the wealthiest 1% earners. It ain't tickling down, but it's good to have fat pockets here. Thanks Slick Rick!)
Many of you are missing the point. It isn't whether marijuana laws are right or wrong. Obviously they are wrong. There is no logical or fair reason for marijuana to be illegal especially when the reason it isn't can be traced back to Hearst and DuPont whose financial interest were threatened by marijuana.
The point is that the constitution and common decency insists that the law is the same for everyone. If you were to spend a year in jail while Willie was let off with a tiny fine you would have every right to be outraged. While marijuana should be legal, it isn't. The rich are not supposed to be above the law even though they are 99.99% of the time.
