Thank you Mike. I too will miss him. I am not even a regular or sporatic viewer of his programs. I am just not interested. Everyone says that he irritated these animals. He did this to further our knowledge of these creatures. He taught us and enlightened us about the animals that he was so passionate about.
I think alot of these people wish they had the balls to do something half as "crazy" as him.

Hi

I am from Australia, I was looking around in the net and came here and read some of the things here.

When I heard the news, I wanted to know what happen and looked at on the net and read about it and watched on TV. His wife was in tasmania with the children climb a mountian. The tasmania police had to use a helicopter to go and tell her. Here in Australia it is big news and it is hard to beleive he had died on the reef with a stingray attack. Today ( Australia time) his wife will claim his body later in the afternoon and the police have the video that film him swimming and later attack.
There is a big tribute in the Australian newspaper and on TVs.

He was a good man and love the work he did and he enjoyed traveling many place including America. We all miss him.

Mike

I see alot of talk about his "lack of education" so he cannot be a conservationist. Just because you do not have a formal education does not disqualify you from being a conservationist. I am not saying he was or wasn't but make arguments that are logically sound.

Yea, I agree. All these people feel sorry for this guy and talk about his "conservation" efforts. He had no formal education. Americans are dingbats. They listen to loud-mouthed death-wished morons on TV, but can't be bothered to read any real science.

I believe that not only has this man disturbed animals but due to his death, he has taken away the rights of his child and his wife. He has left them alone. Was that the only profession to do stupid things with wild animals? I am sad about his family. He was a nice person but of what benefit to him and his family except tears and claps from a few who will forget him after a week or two. Other people should learn a lesson.

I still think that CBS did a bad job of this. First it announces his tragic death by posting the controversial image of him feeding a croc with his infant in his arms, and then it calls his death an "ironic sting in the tail."

Katie Couric must have a hand in this nonsense, because that kind of stupidity wouldn't have gotten past old Bob Schieffer.

I agree with antoniorego. If you play with fire, you'll not get ice creams but will be burnt.
Furthermore, all zoos should be closed and animals released to live in free forests.

I like how the government encourages people to freely use the word "terrorist" and "nazi" to attack unpopular ideas.

The man had no university degree from what I can find. He encouraged people to do stupid things with wild animals. At last we all see that this lunatic was all about sensationalizing danger and making a profit from it.

He always said that his family came first. If that were true, he wouldn't have put himself so senselessly in danger to the point of getting himself killed.

All he ever taught children was that wild animals are dangerous and that dangerous things should be killed.

First, my condolences to Steve Irwin's family, friends and fans. We grieve this loss. Now, to those idiots who feel the need to be negative at this time, SHUT UP.
And - Mark Phillips (CBS - London) should be sanctioned. How can he make a pun while reporting about a tragic death? The ending comment in the video from the CBS Early Show (can be seen on this website), closes with him saying Irwin's death was an "ironic and very sad STING IN THE TAIL". Shame on you Mr. Phillips - and CBS for allowing it.

spoken like a true animal rights terrorists! bravo! no human contact with animals, take away their natural environment due to human encroachment, end zoos, end sanctuaries, end animal ownership-exotic and domestic, persecute the conservationist of this world, neuter-neuter-neuter, spay-spay-spay all those domestic animals.
You two need to be tarred and feather, and sent to another planet. How dare you, how dare you even exploit your insane ideals during this time of grief!

Bunionbabe,
First, you must have common sense not to believe everything you read in the media. The media's main goal is to sell themselves, so they use exaggerated words, and more often, those words are used as a false statement. For you to make such a profound statement, "many biologists and ecologists believe that people like Irwin do more harm than good by exploiting wild animals", is so wrong, and so misquoted, that I am sure you will receive many a email from the conservationists, the biologists and the ecologists, about speaking lies in their behalf.
You, are an animal rights terrorists. Yes, you are. Wild animals are losing their natural habitat due to human encroachment. As people continue to populate the earth, the animals are losing their right to live.
Mr. Irwin was a teacher, he taught us conservation for this planet.

Steve Irwin was an amazing person and did so much for wildlife conservation. He had a connection with the animals...anyone who says he didn't know what he was doing is wrong. This man deserves everyones respect, and his death should be mourned by all. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not have an ounce of compassion for man or animal.
