People seem to relish in bringing on their demise. The ice is melting in the arctic much FASTER than any of the models predicted. I wonder what else will happen faster? But half the comments even on here, where people at least are reading news, are blissfully optimistic that all of the signs of our self destruction are meaningless. We are no more prepared to adapt to climate disturbance than we ever were, in fact less so. We are completely unprepared for disasters, as evidenced by the pathetic response to disasters all around the world. It's going to be heart-wrenching to watch the misery, starvation, freezing, and mass migrations once they start. I chose not to reproduce long ago for that reason. Voluntary population reduction is the only answer. There is going to be a lot less to go around, and people still breed like ants.

New generation of scientists with weak backbones.

You go back to the 1950's through the 1980's, yeah, we had something to think about and it seemed like every 4 months there was some kind of crisis going on. What is the big problem today? North Korea or Iran. That's about it. Nothing compared to facing off against the old Soviet Union, although I will add that the Soviet Union had adult leadership where Iran and NK defiantly do not. Once Iran's nuclear facilities are destroyed (as in any day now) I wonder if they will move the clock backwards?

What is the big problem today? How about overpopulation, climate change, ecological disaster (massive deforestation, overfishing, water pollution), potential agricultural crisis, greed, and religion, to name a few.

Hmmmm.. If I set my watch ahead a half hour, I wonder if my wife would come home early from work and start dinner??? (sarcasm)

Their 'doomsday' clock makes about as much sense as the above.

No one will ever give up their nuclear weapons, or stop trying to make them.

And as far as "global warming" goes, we have passed the point of no return. Our only hope is to try and slow it down, but it ain't going to happen because there are too many lazy people. Too many in denial. They figure that they aren't going to be around, so why worry about it. They aren't thinking of their children and grandchildren.

My daughters have made the decision to not have children because they don't want to bring them into this world. Now, that is a shocker for me. Why? Because they LOVE children. All they have talked about is one day having kids. They love being around kids.

It will take a world wide catastrophe to avoid, either way it's a no win scenario.
Our numbers have to drop, and the leaders have to negotiate.

"Our numbers have to drop, and the leaders have to negotiate."

Exactly. Ain't no way it's going to happen.

Yes you are absolutely right no one is willing to stop generating nuclear power. And this is how our so called technologically advanced civilization will come to its end sooner than we can anticipate.

Interestingly, I uncovered this study which shows P239 isotopes dispersed throughout the atmosphere over North America.

Where does some clock with hands you push back and forth by committee to a few minutes before midnight have any bearing on anything? Throw it in the trash and tell the scientists to do something useful. This means about as much as the colors for homeland security that they keep orange all the time and turn it to red on holidays. Bullcrap.

They're trying to tell us to do something useful, like don't destroy ourselves.

What do you think they have been doing? And they have been trying to get information out to the people for YEARS and YEARS, but the media wouldn't print it. WHY? Because the only thing that they wanted to print was Celebrity crap. WHY? Because that is the only thing the people wanted to read. Everyone was bashing Al Gore because he came out with it, but he was just the messenger. And did you know that Bush stopped the media from printing anything about "global warming" until it went through the lawyer he hired? The lawyer was hired to eliminate everything Bush didn't want you to know.

The scientists can bust their.... butts, but it isn't doing much good if we aren't getting the information!

Mankind is doing so well, ain't they?

When you get to a certain point, do you really think that you can go back?

I kinda liken it to my sister-in-laws daughter. She was a ****. She was allowed out to all hours of the night, doing whatever she wanted. She came to live with me, where there were a few rules and a curfew. She couldn't do it. It's a little hard to pull something back that has gotten out of control.
