Global surface temperatures have increased about 0.74°C (plus or minus 0.18°C) since the late-19th century, and the linear trend for the past 50 years of 0.13°C (plus or minus 0.03°C) per decade is nearly twice that for the past 100 years. The recent warmth has been greatest over North America and Eurasia between 40 and 70°N. Lastly, seven of the eight warmest years on record have occurred since 2001 and the 10 warmest years have all occurred since 1995.

Global temperatures increased about 0.4*C between the late 1800's and 1940, when man made greenhouse gases were insignificant. We then had a 25-30 year cooling trend followed by the latest warmup. The early 20th century warmup NOT due to humans was almost as great as the period from the late 1970's to now. Global temperatures have not increased the past three years and have not increased since 1998, generally agreed as the warmest of the past 100 years. But, using average global temperatures is misleading since some parts of the planet are warming as others are cooling. It's called climate change and it has been occuring naturally since the planet was created.

If the plan to deal with global warming also addressed population control, it would make sense. But to ignore the exploding populations in China, India and the African continent and the fact that will become industrialized is simply ignoring the most basic cause. As we limit our energy usage we can only hope they do the same... and that is NOT going to happen - there is no authority that can, or will tell 2/3 of the world that they can not strive for our standard of living - even if ours, under Obama, is declining.

What it all boils down to is that the deniers are just plain and simply lazy, and to acknowledge it would mean they would no longer be able to justify sitting on their butts and do nothing. It's just easier to DENY.

Most of us deniers have more background in science than the "political scientists" that back the manmade warming theory. Greenhouse gases are only one of many contributors to our climate. Manmade greenhouses gases contribute even less. The main one, water vapor, is not manmade and is about 95% by volume of all greenhouse gases. Even most CO2 is not manmade. You can even look it up. It's known as data.

I just came from town where I parked next to a huhe king cab pickup. I live in a retirment community and NO ONE here farms or needs a truck of that size. Actually it's left wing politics vs sound science. The scientific evidence for manmade warming is pretty flimsy, mostly based on computer models which are unreliable. There are no computer models that can accurately simulate the earth's climate. NONE! We don't even know all the interactions and can't even accurately measure the ones known. There is not even good agreement on the planet's actual temperatures.
