how come there is always a dollar amount attached everytime al gore talks about global warming? - Reply to this comment

- Did you? That statistic sounds made up.

Hmmm I heard it about 30 years ago but googling it lead to several sites claiming proof. even tree hugger sites who admitted to more trees but you can start here: Moore suggests that "trees are the answer." Trees, unlike fossil fuels and metals, are renewable resources. Contrary to what you might believe, we have more trees today than 70 years ago. A lot of unfortunate myths surround activities like logging and clear cutting. Moore dispels a lot of these myths on his web site, Greenspirit.com. - Reply to this comment
- would prefer if you had written...
Stop riding around in your grossly inefficient metallic isolation bubbles, more commonly referred to as cars.

I am sure you would have prefered that. However, that is our current mode of transportation, and until a better option presents itself in an affordable price range, many people are stuck in those bubbles. - Reply to this comment

Did you know that everytime a tree dies or is burned it releases all of that carbon back into the atmosphere? We need living trees, that will be harvested before they die, without burning them. - Reply to this comment

- Yawn this is old news that MSM published on the back page because the cause isn't manmade:
"ScienceDaily (Jan. 22, 2008) ? The first evidence of a volcanic eruption from beneath Antarctica's most rapidly changing ice sheet has been reported. The volcano on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet erupted 2000 years ago (325BC) and remains active.
The subglacial volcano has a 'volcanic explosion index' of around 3-4. Heat from the volcano creates melt-water that lubricates the base of the ice sheet and increases the flow towards the sea. Pine Island Glacier on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is showing rapid change and BAS scientists are part of an international research effort to understand this change." - Reply to this comment
- Look, The easiest way to stop and/or reverse global warming is fairly simple, and the one of the few we can control is this: Start planting trees. Lots of them. The more trees, the more carbon removed from the atmosphere with more oxygen being released. This is not difficult. Find a type of tree that grows well in your area and plant several. If every person did this, we could stop the so called global warming effects. So long as you understand that Climate change will continue regardless, because that is nature.

Just as it has done for millions of years before humans were here and after we will be gone. "
How would sea rise cause more water to be absorbed into the atmosphere? (and if it did that would warm the planet since water vapor is a potent greenhouse gas) - Reply to this comment

fact 1: the greenhouse effect is real, and has been known for 200 years. Without greenhouse gases warming our atmosphere, our planet would be uninhabitable. Without CO2 in our atmosphere, we'd all be freezing, locked in an ice age.
fact 2: CO2 levels have increased 50% since the dawn of the industrial age.
supposition: if CO2 is a critical part of the greenhouse effect, keeping our climate warm, and CO2 levels have increased 50%, then the climate is going to get warmer.
That supposition is one any engineer worth his/her salt would believe wholeheatedly. What happened to you? - Reply to this comment
- Give me your email address and I'll be happy to send you some of the studies. The problem is, you have to believe that true science is being used. If you don't, the figures are useless, right? At this point as far as I'm concerned, it's like telling people either to believe or not believe in God. Rationality has been thrown out the window in this debate.. better yet. I'll find some of the url's and post them, but that will be later on 2nite.

- Whenever I hear someone trashing anthropogenic climate change theories I want to hurl. That's why I just simply don't talk with anyone anymore who "doesn't believe in global warming", or states that "it's a big conspiracy". Because you know what? Every person, face-to-face or on line that I've spoken with who doesn't believe in human-caused global warming doesn't want to look at the science. Or they have looked at it and either "don't believe" the equations or they "don't believe" the original data sets themselves. Or they listen to the lunatic fringe few who completely skew all of the data in their own interests, whatever they may be. Guess what, people? It's science. The same old empirical tried-and-true process that brought you the Space Age, the internet and computer that you spew your lameness on, the cold beer you enjoy while you watch Jerry Springer on the scientifically-engineered flat screen that barely fits in your trailer. ha. If you?re really interested I?ll send you the study that takes into account the possibility we are entering a Maunder style Minimum and still shows at it?s deepest, the minimum might give us a possible 7 years? respite from temperature increases and even that theory might be overdone as we are now learning about the upcoming explosion of additional co2 from thawing tundras and drying equatorial forests. Do me and us all and the gene pool a favor will you, global warming disbelievers? Please, please go find a low-lying area near the coast and purchase a home.

- Article: "By the end of the century, the accelerated melting could cause sea levels to climb by 3 to 5 feet - levels substantially higher than predicted by a major scientific group just two years ago."
Just once, just ONCE, I'd like to read that they overestimated the dangers posed by Global Warming. Rightwingers claim incessantly that scientists and warming advocates are 'chicken littles' inflating their claims to make money. But, over and over again, the exact opposite seems to have been true. Scientists are naturally conservative, and its been politically difficult for warming advocates to say what they really think. We need to stop this and tell the truth, before it gets to such a bad place that people will be afraid to tell the truth. - Reply to this comment
- Yeah but al Gore says we have to do something. And I believe him cause he flys around in a jet plane and gets lots of contributions.
On the other hand. Maybe its all just another liberal hoax so they can spend even MORE money.

Do you have any science to back up your claim?
A chunk of the ice cap the size of Rhode Island broke off that has been stable for 12,000 years.
If you have the mental capacity, here is a site with actual science, not anecdotal, not made up talk radio gibberish.
http://www.realclimate.org/
Do you have a site or link or anything that can come close to the data that resides on this site? I do not care if it is an article from the Weekly Standard, just make the effort and post a link. - Reply to this comment

Wow! So do you want to tell me HOW MUCH money the GOP wasted on Iraq and the first stimulus bailouts?
It is actually funny how you conservative continue to make an arguement about spending money and the last GOP administration ran up more debt than every other previous administrations...41 to be exact!
An now you have the gall to through rock sat Obama because he is actually spending money on our infrastructure and mopping up after the Bush admoinistration, from the porch of you glass house.
My advice is to duck and get a broom out to pick up all the glass! LOL - Reply to this comment

Global warming has been occurring for the last 100 years at roughly the same rate, a very small 0.1 degrees C per decade.

- To believe that human beings can control nature to protect million dollar mansions and beach front condos is amazing. A thousand years ago exactly who put out the brush fires that ignited in the plains? How many acres burned away to be reborn from the ashes? How many tons of CO2 were released during those massive fires? Don't forget the CO2 those MILLIONS of Buffalo let out as they grazed the plains. All that ice that everyone is freaking out over. Guess what? before it froze, it was water. Probably sea water. If the ocean rises, it rises. Maybe you shouldn't have built that beach house so close to the beach. How many trees were cut down to build that beach house? Those trees could be absorbing the CO2 you are so afraid of. What ever happened to critical thinking skills?
