"The biggest of the western glaciers, the Pine Island Glacier, is moving 40 percent faster than it was in the 1970s, "

Yeah sounds huge when they leave out the NUMBERS and thus the complete story, if it moves 6 inches in a year and then moves 9 inches the following, the headline is the glacier moved 50% faster, BFD it moved from 6 inches to 9 inches.

Heres the FACTS they left out;

Velocities of the central flow of the Pine Island Glacier range from 1.5 km/yr above the grounding line to 2.8 km/yr near the terminus; velocities of the central Thwaites Glacier range from 2.2 km/yr above the grounding line to 3.4 km/yr at the limit of measurements on the tongue. Both glaciers show an increase in velocity of about 1 km/yr where they cross their grounding lines.
-
So it moves 1.5 km/yr (4,921 feet), (13 feet /day ) and increased to 2.5 km/yr (8,202) (22 ft/day)

Haha, good job trout. Poor bitter neocon louiville2... misrepresenting, contorting and generally abusing science in order to further a political agenda.

Pathetic, louiville2... really pathetic.

From James Hanson's boss

"Hansen ?embarrassed NASA? with his alarming climate claims and said Hansen was ?was never muzzled.? . . .Theon declared ?climate models are useless.? ?My own belief concerning anthropogenic climate change is that the models do not realistically simulate the climate system because there are many very important sub-grid scale processes that the models either replicate poorly or completely omit,? Theon explained. ?Furthermore, some scientists have manipulated the observed data to justify their model results. In doing so, they neither explain what they have modified in the observations, nor explain how they did it. They have resisted making their work transparent so that it can be replicated independently by other scientists. This is clearly contrary to how science should be done. Thus there is no rational justification for using climate model forecasts to determine public policy,? he added."

Yawn this is old news that MSM published on the back page because the cause isn't manmade:

"ScienceDaily (Jan. 22, 2008) ? The first evidence of a volcanic eruption from beneath Antarctica's most rapidly changing ice sheet has been reported. The volcano on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet erupted 2000 years ago (325BC) and remains active.
The subglacial volcano has a 'volcanic explosion index' of around 3-4. Heat from the volcano creates melt-water that lubricates the base of the ice sheet and increases the flow towards the sea. Pine Island Glacier on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is showing rapid change and BAS scientists are part of an international research effort to understand this change."

Global warming stopped 10 years ago. This is not from democrats, neither from republicans, but from observation.

You should not confuse them with empirical evidence. Everyone knows this warming ended 10 years ago. Of the last SIXTY years FORTY of them we were COOLING, twenty years of warming and they all get their panties in a bind, seshhhh.

What are the effects upon the rotational period of the earth of moving that amount of mass from a location at the pole to distributed in a roughly spherical shell of water 2-5 feet thick over the earths surface? Don't feel like doing the math. Someone should at least check it however!

Let's assume for a moment that human activity, not nature, really is causing global warming. Anyone who believes this and still reproduces is a hypocrite! You can't argue that more humans can actually HELP! If you believe in anthropogenic global warming, you must not have babies. Much of what is wrong in the world today can be directly traced back to overpopulation. Pollution, famine, greenhouse gasses... all that and more. If you have children, you are part of the problem and no amount of carbon credits can change that.
I'd like to see Gore and those who believe him put their money where their big mouths are and stop driving, flying, etc., move into a cave, and use all their disposable income to buy carbon credits. Speaking of which, will someone explain to me again how giving money to Al Gore will do anything about greenhouse gas!

As part of a new stimulus package, President Obama has just proposed that we spend $1.5 trillion dollars on freezers so that we can re-freeze the ocean waters and have the ice shipped to Antarctica. So this process will not cause more greenhouse gases to enter the atmosphere, he proposes an additional $1 trillion to build wind farms to generate the necessary power. Also, he proposes an additional $0.5 trillion to develop a new technologically advanced sailboat so as to transport the ice back to the south pole. Pelosi, Reid, and Frank are all hailing the boldness of his ideas and promise their full support.

It can't be global warming. We had a cold winter. A very cold winter. And we had snow storms. And hundreds of neocon morons posted here about how cold it was so the planet can't be warming.

It can't be global warming, that would mean all those neocons were wrong.

Oh. ;)

Exactly HOW MUCH has the oceans risen already? With all this melting going on right now, you would think that something on our coasts would show signs of rising levels.

The world is flat Texas Ed. I see it every day. There is no such thing as wind either, because it can't see it.

hungry1968-13,
Please accept my apology. I stand corrected. The article actually said the ice caps will melt "by the summer" instead of "Christmas". It's just as threatening! I Googled "ice caps will melt by the summer" and found plenty.

Check this for yourself. Believe it or not, it's a "tree hugger" story!

How many years of global warming will it take the ice caps to thoroughly melt? How many years of global warming will it take for Florida to start sinking? All these "doom" reports year after year with no evidence. The only evidence I've seen of "climate change" is the massive winter we've just passed through with many people lost. Don't the environmentalists realize that weather changes? Weather is unpredictable. I don't believe my local weatherman any more than the fools who tell me I will die tomorrow. It?s laughable how alarmists always compare warm years, why don?t we compare cold winter years? Why don't we compare the winter of 2008/9 to the massive winter of 1978? If liberals want to help others so much, why don't we take some of this ?global warming, climate change? theory money put it to good use for actual problems like: feeding the hungry, clothing the poor (buy them winter coats), finding cures for diseases, etc.. instead of the usual migration of scientists and news photographers running up to the ice caps to film fat polar bears sitting on icebergs?

Global warming is a scientific matter raised by scientific research. One supposes the Republicans will never believe anything from anybody. Possibly some of them do not even believe in cough medicine, penicillin or the combustion engine. Some probably do believe in the tooth fairy--you know, the one that brings quarters and puts them under the pillow. Dream on!

Wow! Another CBS daily "ice melting" report! I remember their reports of last summer saying the ice cap will thaw by Christmas and now, it's been extended. I believe there's still snow and ice up there.
Please note this line:
"The report also determined that autumn temperatures in east Antarctica were cooling over the long term."
When do we get the winter report? So, with all this melting, when will Florida start sinking?
We are still waiting for proof, not more theory.
