There is still poverty in this country whether you want to believe it or not, True hard core poverty, where people go to bed hungry at night, where food on the table is a luxury.

If food is so hard to come by for these people, why did they waste money on a TV ?

Yes there are a lot of Americans who can''t afford a new TV set or even a converter box without help. Some of them work two jobs. The sad part is our minimum wage just is not enough to cover even the absolute necessities. I am glad minimum wage was increased slightly after Dem. took control of congress two years ago and hope Dem. can increase it some more. History tells us GOP congress will never increase minimum wage. Top dogs of many corporations earn more in one hour than those minimum wage earners earn in a year. That kind of situations must not exist in the US.

People...I know what Deb is talking about..I am Maine born and raised. We used the out house for years and that was in the 60s. Hand pumped water and that was in the 60s. I was a kid then. wash up in a tub that we used for washing clothes. Wore hand me downs. Never saw a colour tv till I was 15. the rich are the lazy ones. poor make do with what we have.

Thank you. I am sitting here in tears of anger over the heartless comments of some people. It is so easy to say poverty does not exist if you never see it. When I go see my aunt I take food knowing she will want to cook for me. I always take more than she can cook for a meal so she will have extra, because she wont take help, she calls it charity. I also remember at 11 my grandfather still had an outhouse that was in 77.

I will pass your suggestion of "live within your means, work and save" to my 90 year old great aunt. Who gets $400 a month from my great uncles pension. That she should save and she will be able to get rid of the TV she has that still has a dial tuner, and get a phone. I am sure she would appreciate your advice. A$$hole.

That isn''''t poverty, a lot of people other than single women with children don''''t have much because of their life style choices. You have to live within your means, work and save to get ahead.

Don''t give me lifestyle choice. These are my family members. They do not "choose" to live this way. They cannot "afford" to live any other way. They are not single mothers with children. Some of them are elderly and cannot afford a "new" TV. They barely make their bills every month. What they have left over is for food unless they have meds to buy. There is still poverty in this country whether you want to believe it or not, True hard core poverty, where people go to bed hungry at night, where food on the table is a luxury.

Some of these homes still have TVs that have no remote. Some of these homes do not even have a phone. Do you get that?

Yes I get that! I know how it is to eat donuts for a week for a meal. And they were stale donuts at that. But knowing that this was coming it seems to me a few pennies here and a few pennies there can add up. Don''''t critize me as I''''ve been there and know what the poor go through in trying to pay their bills and put food on the table. Never mind you wouldn''''t understand anyway---you just want to nitpick someone.

I wouldn''t understand? You have no idea. I grew up never knowing from one meal to the next if there would be food on the table. I remember my mother sending me to the store with pennies she had saved to buy a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread. I remember when there was food it was usually beans because they were cheap and filling. I remember having plastic on the windows in the winter to stop the drafts. Please do not tell me what I don''t understand.

Obama wants gasoline prices much higher like in Europeeeeing countries, he says electricity cost under his administration will skyrocket, he intends to bankrupt the coal industry. He is going to have to pay people to put solar panels on their roof like California is having to do. He has stated trillion dollar deficits will continue for years in the USA, why?

Do you understand the concept of "poor"? Have you ever had to "save" to buy a gallon of milk? Have you or your children ever went to bed hungry because there was no food in the house? There are true poverty cases in this country. Some of these homes still have TVs that have no remote. Some of these homes do not even have a phone. Do you get that?

People with analog TVs have had a year to get converter boxes coupons from the US Goverment worth 40.00 for each box. A lot of people have invested in HDTVs and now the POTUS elect is telling them they wasted their money.

He wants all the poor and those who wait for others to fix things for them (his voter support base) to have TV access. The digital conversion will mean that some of his supporters may not have TV access. That means that they can not listen to liberal TV media.

Obama just ran the biggest, most integrated web/media campaign in the history of the USA. He had an enormous media campaign through Colleges and Universities throughout the country.
I think you have no clue about his voter base!

What''s all the hoopla about. Who even needs a boob tube anyway?

Watching television will make you stupid and gullible.

Buy Buy Buy - its moronic to continue to watch such trash.

My advice is to throw out the T.V. and start doing something constructive with your time.

You''re all wasting your lives watching the idiot box.

But the Gov wants you to have T.V. ... so they can continue to make you stupid.

Those of you who say digital is unnecessary either live in an area where reception is already perfect or have never seen digital. (As well there are critics who have cable or satellite and they are irrelevant).

With analog, I got snow and ghosting. With a set top box I have a perfect picture - same antenna, no booster. It will be an improvement for most.

Yeah. And why should those old people and those with less money than us have access to anything? what, do they think? all of us were created equal or that this is a republic democracy of the people, by the people and for the people or something?

roscoe, he was very clear on the auto bailout. foreign policy issue are always off limits to the Prez elect.

I sense that no matter what he did you would criticize him. Are you just an Obama hater or do you really have a problem with him voicing his opinion on digital TV deadlines?

How about we wait until he has been in office for, oh, say, 15 minutes before we decide if he is succesful?

ummm... he was a Senator, and now is President elect. So suddenly he doesn''''t have the right to express his position on an issue?

Yes you''re right-- he was a Senator---- he resigned his seat.

He has managed to use this excuse to dodge plenty of important issues in recemt past---- TARP, auto bailout, Gaza crisis---- What a hipocrite--- that''s my point---- if it''s something hot or important that needs leadership and guidance and will have long lasting ramifications for the future of our country or the world---- He just stands back and says--- Not my job man!

What a buffoon!
