And please don''''t tell me you are going to get hydrogen out of water; where will you get all the energy to do that? We need energy; not hydrogen, and there isn''''t any on earth.

The above posting by Seafang amused me immensely. With oil now costing over 130 dollars a barrel, I can confidently assure him that it is now cost effective to build nuclear power stations to provide energy. If, in conjunction with building conventional plutonium fuelled reactors, we actively pursue the development of Thorium fuelled reactors, we may well be in a position to achieve the Nirvana of hydrogen powered aircraft and automobiles.

on_alert is clearly an expert in this field, but I wish he would tell us the answers to his questions as I have neither the time nor the inclination to go hunting for them on the internet

I''ll bet it doesn''t have anything to do with the fact there''s 7 billion people on the planet.

Well, all I know is that it has been a wild ride in Kansas this year. We have had more tornadoes so far than since they have been keeping records. Lots of damage. Flooding..I haven''t had to water my yard or flowers once so far and usually I am worn out by now trying to keep everything alive. We have had wet years, but never this number of really violent storms.

Look at how much oil companies spent to make that profit and compare that to drug companies or banks.

Oh? and how much DID they spend transporting oil bought overseas to here and then refined it?
Lets see some BOOKS and bank records on these expenses they claim is eating up profit and adding to the price of gasoline because they pay more for ''exploration'' and ''research''

The money is going into their bank accounts.

Jimfinster,
The ones are *** us are the environmentalists who have prevented drilling here, who have pushed using food for fuel and driven up prices of corn, and who don''''t let refineries be built to increase capacity, who constantly sue businesses, and on and on.

Not true. Drilling stopped because the reserves were used up. Refineries were not built as a business decision by the oil companies. These are facts which you can confirm with a little research.

What part of profit per dollar of sales don''t you understand?
Lots of other industries make more profit per dollar of sales.

I have to go to bed, I have an early morning tomorrow.
I hope your feet stay dry.

What part of PROFIT do you not understand. This is AFTER all expenses. Read it again!

Exxon, the world''''s largest publicly traded oil company, said fourth-quarter net income rose 14% to $11.66 billion, or $2.13 per share. The company earned $10.25 billion, or $1.76 per share, in the year-ago period.

The profit topped Exxon''''s previous quarterly record of $10.7 billion, set in the fourth quarter of 2005, which also was an all-time high for a U.S. corporation.
