other peoples comments are often the reason people commit suiside/depression, it is a mean world out there. while i do think that is was immature for an adult woman to do such a thing i don''t however see how someone can sue someone else for this. if work makes me want to kill myself should my family sue the business...that is ludicrous the courts would get nothing done but hearing about who caused who to kill themself.

Lori Drew now denies she did anything yet she filed a report with the local police where she admitted to her involvement. Here is the report she filed.

All of you HATERS should go take a look at MySpace and see who this young lady was, then think real hard about what you saying. Here is a real tragic twist to the story, Megan''s mother sold the Drew family their house. So in a way she actually chose them as neighbors. The Meirers now have a "MySpace" memorial page for Megan, in addition to Megan''s original site. Go take a look

dmotte: you obviously have not been following this case very closely. She was lured into an online relationship with nothing but positive and friendly posts, when suddenly the ''friend'' turned on her and told her the world would be better without her. Its not a case of her reading emails that were cruel or taunting to begin with and had not become personal, these were personal and calculated. And how many children of her age ever let peer pressure and harassment not affect them. How irresponsible to even say something like that, ignoring the fragile esteem of teens. Thousands hurt themselves every year because of peer issues. Some even get violent towards others. Its not something to make fun of and brush off.

need to start taking personal responsibility for our actions; some people need to go the extra step and be judged by their peers in a court of law.

This is what it boils down to. Take responsibility for our actions, and be judged by our peers. What''s acceptable and what''s totally not.

There is a big difference in filing a lawsuit because you dropped your HOT coffee on your lap or because a cleaner lost your pants. That kind of suit is an insane misuse of the courts, I agree. We aren''t talking about a frivolous civil or criminal act. We are talking about a young woman who killed herself in some part because of an adults actions. While we need to curtail our lawsuit mentality, who also need to start taking personal responsibility for our actions; some people need to go the extra step and be judged by their peers in a court of law.

Except, that''s not the issue here, whether the girl had mental problems. Obviously she did, but a grown up, a person who should know better, someone who is also raising her own child of the same age, contributed to the decline of this poor girl, and over a period of time, like torture. Don''t care whether you have problems or not, it''s just wrong. Very wrong. In fact, it''s evil.

missybelle, like I stated before, this girl had mental problems before the myspace episode or she would not have gone to the extremes of taking her own life. She should have gone own with her life and not worried about what someone else said or she should have stopped reading the e-mails if they were upsetting her.

guysdigdirt: unfortunately there are very few statutes addressing cyber bullying, stalking, etc. Its a very slipper slope, how to address cyber attacks and free speech. But we also have to remember that free speech even has its limits. ''You can''t yell fire in a crowded theater if there is no fire''. In other words, (dogsoul), when your ''speech'' causes or its intent is to cause harm to others then it must be investigated as a crime. When a bully on the street incites others to do harm he is complicit, it should be the same even on the internet.

Also, dmotte, the courts aren''t at fault, it''s lawyers for taking on the cases to begin with. Anyone can file a lawsuit, and apparently they do. Your sentiment is dead on, though.

What makes all of this so much more tragic is that the woman involved was also no random stranger, but someone who knew what this girl was going through, her background, and exploited it for her own jollies and to find out what she was saying about her own daughter. The grown up action should have been, and PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION, to teach her daughter to go on about her own business and not worry what anyone was saying about her, but no... she had to pretend to be another kid (apparently no stretch for her low mentality) and torment someone until they took their own life. This is wrong, this is psycho, and these sorts of behaviors need to be attacked. This wasn''t a moment of passion, this was coolly and calmly enacted over a period of time.

It is not about fraud, it is about a grown woman driving a young girl to kill herself. This is little different than physical abuse.

There is a lot of bashing going on here with little information i.e. "...she was probably harrassing the woman''s daughter" The woman is a "helicopter mom", she wanted to see if Megan was saying anything bad about her daughter. There is a lot more to this story then what is reported in this article. Being the father of a young daughter that wants a "MySpace" page the story caught my eye and I began following this story shortly after the tragedy occurred. Some of the posters here should go back and look into the history of what happened here. Lori Drew is not innocent, she has changed her story more than once and actually recruited more kids to help with the harrassment.

I do not believe in bullying tactics but I don''t have any respect at all for the courts of this land or for law enforcement in general because they are always looking for some off the wall bul-*** to charge someone with. This nation is slowly comming to communism with all of this big brother, spying on U.S. citizens bul-***.

dmotte: so if everyone is doing it, it excuses the adult who harassed and tricked this child? Everyone speeds so let them all go? Thousands drive drunk, so let them all go? If the act is caught or results in harm it should be addressed and the violator punished. I am not a big fan of anarchy, which you seem to endorse. You''re sound like someone who has committed some bullying in your day and are in looking for approval or are in denial of the harm you may have caused others. Grow up soon, please.

Most of you people commenting on this are a bunch of self-rightous a-sholes who have probably committed some type of fraud in cyberspace.

dmotte: There you go again. Making assumptions and accusations without any facts. You say ''probably'' because you have no clue. Quit being part of the problem.
