- ...like, how long would the power have to be off for it to make a difference after we turned it all back on?

I was wondering about this too. The first time i heard about Earth Hour was on saturday morning.
No offence to anybody, since it seems like the people here have figured out most of the problems surrounding Earth Hour. But how would the people in this forum have planned this event so that it could be done just because you wanted to (not because a politician suggested it), without all of the ironies. (ie:considering that it takes more power to turn the power on than to turn it off...) - Reply to this comment
- I would have turned off the lights if I had known about this in advance. I notice that the article didn''t even mention the day this earth day was suppose to take place.

- VP Cheney''s Strategic Science Committee examines the military advantages that may be gained from negative geo-physical developments. They plan the flooding of some areas in the US and abroad to make gains from rising sea levels, they propose annexing Canada if the Great Plains become desert, and they plan to cool the planet by re-starting atmospheric nuclear testing. The think-tank''s Director, Prof. Foule, says that the group isn''t subject to US laws on financial and info. disclosure because its meetings occur at the Institut Poisson-Davril.

- Our "Earth Hour" wasn''t about politics though. (Sometimes when the government does things like this it seems more like an excuse for political figures to get together and party.) It was really hot in pennsylvania at the time and people had just started becoming concerned about polution and the environment...It was probably more of a spontanious grass-roots thing.

- My family did Earth hour a couple years ago when Hong Kong did their "Lights Out Hong Kong" campaign. It was on most of the blogs at the time and I thought why not.
Three-minutes turned into an hour long family game night, something we hadn''t done in years.
I talked to my family after the news today and they wouldn''t mind doing it again. - Reply to this comment
- Here on Kent East Hill, Washington (98030) I made sure each and every (compact florescent) light in my one bedroom apartment was ablaze at 8pm yesterday. I am celebrating Mankind''s ascent from the cave to modern living.

- I find it so interesting that the dems always invent a way to blame Republicans for everything. They never find fault with any of their "leaders" it''s always THOSE REPUBLICANS. From what I recall about the bill being thrown around was that it was full of "benchmarks" or "pork". There was a recent bill passed for over 18 billion in taxes to the oil companies (those rats) but gave a pass to chavez of venezuela. I find that very interesting.
Have any of you leemings ever given a thought to the fact that the higher gas prices go the more the state and fed governments get more in taxes. Higher gas prices means more revenue for the government, both fed and state. Wouldn''t it be nice if our governments rolled back those taxes and give us a break??? Ever thought of that??
There are other politicans in government other than Bush. Try spreading the blame around and do something constructive. - Reply to this comment

What? I''m as anti-partisan as they come, but this deserves a response: The 2007 Farm Bill was sponsored by Democratic Representative Colin Peterson, MN., overwhelmingly supported by the Democratic Party in the House and Senate, Deadlocked by the Republicans over Tax and Immigration issues - and as of February 19, still in limbo due to the lack of a sufficient Democratic majority to ensure passage.
The sheep can have either a "D" or "R" next to their names - still just sheep. "Turn off your lights for an hour..." Baah "then plug in your computer and talk about it..."Baah - Reply to this comment

America''s ethanol program is not about economics. Its not about ''green''. Its about keeping the ''base'' fat, dumb and happy and voting Republican. Like our atrocious defense spending bill.
Dems prefer to spend welfare on people that actually qualify for it. Not so republicans. Have you written your check to Bear-Sterns yet? Better get on it. - Reply to this comment
