crusherking - OK say man has no effect on the earth''s climate. Do you deny that the ice caps at least in the Northern hemisphere are melting at an accelerating rate and that Antarctica''s is at least becoming unstable? Do you deny that Global Warming exists per se or just the "man-made" variety. If you are of the latter persuasion don''t the predictions of sea level rise worry you at all? If they do, don''t you think that it would be adviseable for mankind to figure out a way to prevent this happening or is the vision of Manhattan south of Madison Square Garden (or so) underwater palatable to you?

Dr. Finster,

Then you must at least consider conceding the point that Algore is at a minimum suspect in his preaching about global warming and buying carbon credits whilst he is founder and chairman of GIM, a so-called "carbon credit" company that has never really shown what exactly it does.

I mean, if you''re going to be consistent at all in attacking others because of their connections.

Do you guys really believe the global warming BS?? I''d love to debate anyone on this topic. Its simply ridiculous to dismiss 3billion years of history and state that we are causing global warming or that any of these regulatory standards will do anything to improve or curb ''global warming''. I am astounded that this still continues to be accepted without question.

I keep suggesting for them to just invest in large scale desalinization facilities at key coastal areas and pump the water inland for various needs on both the east and west US coasts, mexico, some sections of south america, Africa, Middle east, and asia.
While that feat is being accomplished, establish highest degree of mass wastewater treatment plants to provide agricultural irrigation and fertilizer for increased crop production and proper waste disposal.
Whent those two things are invested in on a massive scale on all major continents the water supply will end up providing increased water tables, decreased desert/arid lands, and restabilize the seasonal changes the earth goes through including natural phenomenon that appears quite a bit more common these days.

I wouldn''''t go that far, but certainly putting their reputation against the IPCC doesn''''t even rate David vs Goliath.

You are being way too gentle on them. Considering the financial influences involved, how can they be viewed as credible on any subject?

Ok, this is especially for McVet the neocommy idiot. Sure the UN sent out a report on climate change that included the ''vast'' majority of scientists..Well not really, it was a small number and in fact many of the scientist included in the report, completely disagree with the reports assertion and claim they were misrepresented in the report. Many of the scientist who now dismiss global warming were the ones cited by the UN in their report. As I stated earlier, we are considered a cold climate compared to what the dinosaurs lived in. And to answer your question McVet, the general consensus is that there have been a number of mass extinction, not just one, caused by different catalysts. Meteors and volcanic activity being the main culprits. Guess what is not one of the reasons EVER given for the extinction of the dinosaurs.. Global Warming, unless you consider the meteor strike and volcanic activity as true global warming events which is different from what todays global warming scientist are falsely promoting. The Earth goes through hot and cold cycles. Its not just a theory, it is solid, proven and accepted FACT. Man does have an impact on the environment obviously. We must do things better to preserve our air quality. But to state that man has caused global warming is completely WRONG.

OK guys,
I think I get your point. ANYTHING the Heartland Institue does or says is automatically a lie because of their ''''''''connections,'''''''' is that essentially your position?

The two-day gathering, which concludes Tuesday, was organized by the Heartland Institute, a Chicago group whose antiregulatory philosophy has long been embraced by, and financially supported by, various industries and conservative donors.

Riley E. Dunlap, a sociologist at Oklahoma State University who has studied the influence of conservative policy institutes, said in an e-mail message that such events were designed to foster the impression of %u201Clittle Davids battling the Goliath of the environmental establishment.%u201D

But Dr. Dunlap said such activities were well financed and, %u201CWhen you have the full support of some of the wealthiest and most powerful political actors in the nation, you can hardly be considered to be underdogs.%u201D
