it''s guaranteed the satellite will be destroyed, because even if the missile misses, somebody will be ready to hit the self-destruct button at the right moment. yes, all military satellites are equipped with a self destruction system, to prevent any sophisticated equipment from being captured in space.

There was an assumption by the US and the rest of the world that the military of the US was an awesome, undefeatable force. We went to Iraq and proved that we still, after all these years and with all this technology, can''t defeat a guerilla force.

It could also be assumed by the world that we can shoot down any satellite we want to, so don''t put a spy satellite over the US. If we take this shot and miss, we will show the world we can''t hit a satellite.

Sometimes the best way to appear strong is to avoid fights. Getting in a fight with our own botched satellite is stupid, even if we manage to hit it. Admitting that we can''t defend ourselves when the ocean is a little rough goes even further toward making us look foolish.

Well, I hope that if someone ever tries to strike us, that they do it on a clear balmy night.

What do you suppose failed on the satellite that caused it to lose electrical power?

A chip that says "Made in China" on it?

And do you mean to tell me that, in the event our sea-based missiles are needed in an emergency, that the Navy will have to study the weather for a few days?

Do you mean to tell me that a sea-based precision guided rocket needs calm weather to be launched? And do you mean to tell me that the Shuttle would have been at risk and that the space station and about a zillion other satellites will NOT be at risk? And should I believe that hydrazine would''s burn away in "unprotected re-entry"? It just seems the official story is a weak disguise for a warning shot over the bow of adversaries.
