I live in MI, and spent 10 years living in Northern MI, were you can not blink with out seeing a working gas/oil well, and that is just ONE state. They closed down ALL of our local refineries years ago, cutting hundreds of thousands of jobs, led them to telling the American people we are dependant on foriegn oil. These lines run all the way to Texas. We have NO NEED to be dependant on foriegn oil AT ALL. We produce more than enough right here on our own soil. The PROBLEM is in the White House, Look around, all of our production plants for just about everything has been outsourced. We have lost jobs, insurance, people, soon there will be NO American jobs or products. Most of the mney to be made in MI was off the auto industry and oil/gas. Those days are gone, and so is our way of life.

Salt water seems abundant, why not tap into the ocean''s supply?

httpwwwnews, cool idea. And use solar powered pumps, since they have (I think) 350 days of sun. One drawback is the corrosion on everything. Have you ever visited a coastal city? I saw more cars rusting or corroding from that effect. But hey, who cares, right? We''re almost out of gas. :)

dukakislives, I have a nice V-8 T-Bird in my garage I don''t drive anymore, just because of your statement. I feel the same way. How many vehicles do you see running idle at the quick shop, to find all they went in there for was a pack of smokes and a couple of lottery tickets. Waste waste waste......got my fat a$$ on a bicycle and use it more often now because of the soaring price of gas. I think one big problem is, we are exporting 3/4 of the oil we produce and importing 3/4 of what we use. If we were to cut OPEC out and use what we produce, OPEC will be sitting on a large supply with no one to sell it to. Of course our price will sky rocket, but knowing I am using what is produced here, it would be worth it. Outlaw all SUV''s Hummer''s and gas hogs. The list is too long to put on here, but I think you get my point.....

There is nothing so unrefreshing as swimming in water over 100 degrees. This idea has developers profit written all over it.
