aa36402 - they have analyzed the earth temps etc back to 650,000 years including plotting temp against carbon dioxide rise. They do this by studying ice cores that have been there the whole time. The carbon dioxide and temp follow each other totally. They even saw lead content go up and down, remember when lead was a problem and we solved that? At no time has carbon dioxide EVER been this high. We are in trouble man and that's no bull!!!!

Look. I have lived around scientists all my life. The fact that the planet and weather are screwed up by too much green house gas is true. For starters, scientists LOVE to prove each other wrong! The fact that 99 percent agree is enough for me. The fact that someplace is cold means nothing, it's the overall warming and artic and antartic ice melt that is the problem. Some people won't believe until their waterfront homes start to go underwater. Then, by God, the screaming will start!!!! Instead of their gorgeous view, they'l be staring at the back of a giant sea wall oe their house will be gone.

Branson should be the one getting the nobel peace prize. What an admirable human being. wow...

I really like Branson, but it should be noted why he started to invest his own money to combat AGW:

Branson's billion-dollar idea came after Al Gore paid a visit to his home. Branson recalled the conversation: "He said, 'You're in position to make a difference, and if you can make a giant step forward, other people will follow.' I was flattered he spent the time and took the effort to talk to me about it."

There is always someone who has to lead -- and take the beating -- and that was Gore over the last 25 years not Branson.

on a global warming note..im in corp finance and i work in numbers a lot. what i dont understand re: the global warming debate is this. if there has been millions of years of change in global weather patterns and we just started measuring said patterns in the last 100 years or so..how can we be sure the changes we a are seeing is due to man. for instance..if a certain kind of change has accelerated the past 50 years due to mans impact..how can we be sure similar changes have not taken place in the past? what i mean is, how we can determine something as random as weather with such a smal sample piece of data. if anyone can address the analytics vs the "emotional" side of the debate that would help me understand. for instance in finance or statistics we cant state a corelation if we do not have a large enough sample size..how can we do that in this case?
Thanks

Global warming causes more snowfall. Volcanoes make Earth cooler. I read it here first.

Next: Water causes dehydration.

Global warming causes more snowfall.
Of course it does. An increase in the heat budget speeds up the water cycle - more evaporation from the oceans, more precipitation results. Where moisture-bearing clouds are carried high enough, that precipitation falls as snow. Basic meteorology.

Volcanoes make Earth cooler.
Of course they do. Volcanoes throw particles of dust high into the atmosphere, forming a barrier to incoming solar radiation. You need only look back to the effects of Mt. Pinutabo for confirmation.

Oh boy, a prime example of the opposition. No wonder so many people are still in a state of denial. They don't understand very VERY basic science.

GREAT HEADLINE

Indeed a great headline after the warmest January on record.

Last month was the world's hottest January on record, in further evidence that greenhouse gas emissions are causing global warming, Japanese scientists said.
Temperatures across the planet were 0.45 degrees Celsius above average in January, the highest since figures were first compiled in 1891, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Friday.

I wonder when people like you will finally understand that you are living on a planet not just in a city, state. Where do you think that snow came from?

Global warming to bring heavier rains, snow

Heavier rain or snow, however, will also fall in northwestern and northeastern North America, northern Europe, northern and eastern Asia, southwestern Australia, and parts of South America during the current century.

You know what the real beauty of it is though? The beauty of planting.

Everyone needs to do it -- so we could really all be on a "team". So hey, we need to work together to be sucussful.

Now this idea may strike some as "not right", but even single-celled organisms figured out a way to work together.....

Duh.

Plant trees, just as Buffalo_Ken said. Trees fix CO2 into the biosphere. Low tech and cheap. Where's my 25 milion? I'll split it with you, Ken.

Hey people,

Really -- it is simple. Plant trees. Stop cutting trees. Simple.

Simple, Simple, THREe times simple.

Moreover, the country of USA only represents a small amount of the people who are going to decide. Wake up.

Artificial Photosynthesis (APS) could go a long way toward solving our two great problems: energy sufficiency and Global Warming. APS can actuallu REMOVE CO2 from the atmosphere and convert it to hydrocarbons. There are vigorous research efforts all over the world on APS. I refer you to the book, "Artificial Photosynthesis: From Basic Biology to Industrial Application," Collings an Critchley, Ed., WILEY-VCH, 2005. As they say in their preface, it's a matter of "when," not "if," APS becomes reality. The many scientists working on APS should be generously supported with grants, and, more importantly, we should be pursuing APS with a vigorous development program. APS shows great promise and should be pushed with a Manhattan/Apollo level effort. We must move fast--the world is in trouble. Warren Felt

unfortunately there is no way to convince people that don't believe in global warming that it is true; and at the same time there is no way to convince people that do believe in it, it is fake. but can't we all agree that pollution is bad, dependence on foreign oil is bad, finding a cleaner more efficient form of fuel would be good. why is it so bad that a billionaire and a former VP are trying to push the rest of us in that direction.

"I still maintain the left-wing has all the cool musicians, though."

But no one can deny the fact that Ted Nugent has excellent taste in firearms.

That is true! I forgot about the Motor City Madman. He is cool in his own ultra-gonzo, goofy way.

And I think I heard Kid Rock was a Bush supporter? So ... the Concert For Neo-Conservatism would be Ted Nugent, Kid Rock and ... hmmm. Somehow Britney doesn't fit in that company.

I'm pretty sure they'd both fit in her, though ...

I'm Christopher the inventor of Swellfuel. I don't care about $25,000,000 but if I had it, I could make my ocean energy convert sooner. The answer is in the ocean. The global warming thing can,t be fixed completely with one idea and even if it could we are to stupid to see it. www.swellfuel.com
