I'v been to France, they have just as much fat people as we do. What they lack is muscles, which is far heavier than fat.
Americans are far stronger in body, mind and spririt.
Sure France don't let in many legal immigrants (and don't allow any illegal immigrants)from poor countries like the US does, so they don't have that to complicate their nation's healthcare services and health stats, but maybe they are on to something there.
C'mon, they might believe this in France but go outside , look around. 70 percent of people are NOT overweight.
Sure on AVERAGE, since we don't have starving people or Frances anorexia proble, we might be the highest in average weight.
In any case, when you go to europe you will not see people with an ounce of muscle whatsoever. Americans have been on a big muscle kick since the 70's ,muscle weight far more than fat. Therefore we are certainly heavier by design.
Sadly muscle does turn to fat when you stop working out,especially later in life.
Translation- Europeans are a bunch of sissies. But we already knew that.

143G can buy us a LOT of health care, Avogadro's number of unnecessary military toys, a helluva lot of low income housing, tax incentives for bringing manufacturing back here, something other than pretend mental health care for our indigent, looooong overdue road and bridge repair, a healthy down payment in funding "alternative energy", bicycle trails and interurban foot paths, a modernized power distribution grid, a sensible plan for Gulf wetland preservation.......see the possibilities?

As a whole, it would seem so. But don't get too cocky, the rest of the industrialized world is following close behind us on the fat front. The mindless flag waving (and I stress the word mindless) is pretty bad though. The guns, however, I don't have a problem with as an American. Our history plays a large part in that and other nations can't really understand. You have to have had a civil war AND a frontier to get it, I think. After all, the wild west wasn't tamed until just about 100 years ago. Plus, unlike a lot of European nations, we hunt. A lot. Still. You'd be surprised how common it is. Europeans weren't allowed to hunt (you'd be pouching the King's deer), so you don't have that tradition. And it IS a tradition. So, we can forgive you for not understanding.
