What great news! 'Studies' by 'researchers' ought to do it! If government funded these 'studies' will not be of short duration, for sure. The fascinating 'researchers' may come down with Alzheimers before discovering its cure. Never mind, there will be other 'researchers' ready to take their place.
Three to five years is unlikely. Researchers have been working on some diseases for fifty years without much to show for it. Although I am in favor of research, cures and/or preventions for Alzheimer's disease is probably decades away.
Something here is just not right. These drug companies want the government to fund the research, then get out of the way so they can make billions from the drug after it is approved. If tax monies develop the drug, it should be distributed at NO PROFIT. The right wingers would call that socialism, but then they are only interested in corporate profit, not the American people. Go figure.
so much of this disease seems to be around these days. what caused it to become a major disease? is it diet, pollution, smoking, what? is the USA the only nation state with so many, many cases of the disease or is it all over the world?
Look at the economics, in 2050, treatment of Alzheimers will be a Trillion dollar business, a vaccine will be nowhere near as profitable as that. Hence, no money for the cure, billions for treatment. That's what for-profit medical care is all about.
This all sounds good, but; those of us who spend our days and nights as the caretakers of loved ones who suffer from this horrible disease, know it won't happen in our lifetimes, or in the lifetimes of our loved ones.

It's always money. We've heard this same old story for every telethone, disase, etc. It's not that I don't feel for families impacted by Alzheimer's but its more that research is a money maker game not a healing game. And in the end this is no game to the afflicted or their families.
