FDA Changes Its Story On Melamine Contamination, But Insists Products Are Safe
- "The FDA shunned those calls, but admitted it had released inaccurate information on what chemicals were found in which top selling products. "
Good call FDA. After people actually start ******** and not buying your cr*p, you change your story. Why are any of these chemicals in the formula? How is it "accidentally" getting into the formula? They won''''t tell you what it is from because then you''''d find out that it is in a ton of products. Do research on food dyes and then you''''ll really freak out. You''''ll quickly see that all cereals that you feed your children have toxic levels of food dyes and chemicals to make them pretty.
It''''s all a scam and the FDA doesn''''t really care.

Isn''t that the truth? Remember the big stink about our senior citizens crossing the border into Canada to purchase affordable prescription drugs? And the FDA and our government tried to make the case of drug safety as the reason our old people should not be allowed to do this? I didn''t believe the FDA then, and I certainly don''t believe them now. How sad!
By the way....HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!! - Reply to this comment
- Another consequence of the "Reagan Revolution" is the conversion of government "watchdog" agencies into toothless tigers. Reagan and his Neocon buddies felt that business should be able to peddle whatever they want, as long as the Billionaire class that owns and operates the Republican Party can make money.
This kind of situation is a direct result of Reagan''''s harmful policies, and of the stupidity of the American people, such as the "Reagan Democrats", who bought this moronic argument.
If you want to be kept safe by the government, you can''''t both cut budgets until the agencies cannot function, and staff them with incompetent political hacks.
George Bush and Ronald Reagan are directly responsible for this situation.
Rot in hell, Ronnie, rot in hell.
And as for George Bush--have a nice time in Paraguay avoiding your richly-deserved trial of the century.

IDIOT! If you think anything is going to change under NOBAMA you''re fooling yourself. - Reply to this comment
- The FDA had to check with their chief scientist George Bush who has to check to see who had bought him off this time. Yes the baby food manufacturers were big contributers so the baby food must be safe.

You are totally correct, just like trickle down economics, total failure for the American people, but not the rich. - Reply to this comment
- Remember, the heads of the FDA and other government agencies are political appointees. They aren''t scientists who have been promoted to "chief". They are political hacks rewarded for supporting the president''s campaigns. Why are we surprised no one is minding the fort?

- The poisoned and defective Chinese imports MUST be stopped!
Now melamine has made it into our food chain via US companies replacing US produced ingredients with cheap
and tainted ingredients made in China!
The American consumer MUST boycott Chinese goods in order to keep from killing us all! - Reply to this comment
- and this is only what has come to light so far. what else has the FDA hidden so the corporations can profit no matter what? Thanks Bush! Great f**cking job!

- It''s 9-11 eveyone. The air is safe to breathe. go back to work. Continue shopping, Everyone go to Disney on Vacation, Increase production, blessings of the state, blessings of the masses, move along nothing to see here...Everything will be all right. You are in my hands. I am here to protect you. You have nowhere to go. You have nowhere to go.
The Head of the FDA should be the nation''s Food and medicine tester. If a food or drugs safety is in question and the FDA clears it, They should have a live news conference and force feed a gallon of it to whomever is in charge right then and there. - Reply to this comment
- The problem here seems to be that the people that run the FDA as well as other government agencies are not working for the American people. They seem to be working for the very companies that they are supposed to regulate.

- The FDA issued a report that there was no safe level of Melamine. Yet here they are saying don''t worry, it ain''t a thing. It is time the Chinese corporations and government be brought to court in a class action civil suit over contaminated food products being manufactured in China.

- As a newer mom unable to produce enough milk to breastfeed my child, I have been paying up to $26 per can for this carp. We, the taxpayers, pick up the tab for WIC moms, many of whom simply don''t marry their children''s fathers so they can receive benefits, many who do not breastfeed because it will interfere with their drug habits, or they decide it''s simply too inconvenient. It is an outrage that the FDA says any level of toxicity in our foods is "OK."

- We are reading of violations by large corporations, they are not interested in the health of your infants, only how to control this news leakage and to continue making money off our young. This contamination might not make your babies sick immediately but any repeated intake can affect their health forever. If we mothers in America could learn to breast feed our young instead of buying this packaged trash we might find our children healthier. Been there, done it!!

- Melamine is combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a very durable thermosetting plastic used in Formica, and melamine foam, a polymeric cleaning product. The end products include countertops, dry erase boards, fabrics, glues, housewares and flame retardants. Melamine is one of the major components in Pigment Yellow 150, a colorant in inks and plastics.
Surplus melamine has been a popular adulterant for feedstock and baby formula in mainland China for several years now, because it can make diluted or poor quality material appear to be higher in protein content by elevating the total nitrogen content detected by some simple protein tests. - Reply to this comment
- what do we expect, everything we eat and drink is contaminated because it is made in some run down nasty factory. Do you think it would be any different for baby formula?

- DO NOT throw anything away.
DO NOT change anything you are doing.
There is NO evidence of any threat to anyone. READ the article and DO NOT panic. Based on all available information, there is NO risk. NONE.
If you are REALLY worried - immediately stop breathing. Oxygen toxicity occurs with EVERY breath. As they taught us in medical school - 100% oxygen causes toxicity in a few days. 21% oxygen (the air we breath) causes toxicity in about 100 years. - Reply to this comment
- "...the FDA reiterated its position that the baby food is safe and parents should continue feeding it to their babies, contending the extremely low levels of contamination do not present a health danger."
No level is an acceptable level! There shouldn''t be any melamine in baby formula or any food! - Reply to this comment
- The CEO''s of these companies should be immediatly sent to jail and stripped of their benefits, and the head of the FDA should be fired and barred from holding a gov''t job for the rest of his life, and this should be done to send a message that the US will not allow the endangering of our babies for the sake of greed.
