Feds: 1 In 8 Americans Struggled To Feed Themselves - Even Before Economic Downturn
- Obesity is acutally a SIGN of poverty. HIGH carb, High Sugar High fat foods are cheaper than nutrient dense, low calorie low fat foods.
When people are struggling to meet everyday needs of food, shelter, and clothing, the LAST thing they worry about it is their wasteline, and going to the gym and did they meet their required fruits and vegis for the day.
These parents goals are to make sure there are not hunger pains in their childrens belly.
Please be careful of the stereotypes you put forth. It could be someones life you are hurting.... in a few months it could be you buying raimen noodles and not your neighbor. - Reply to this comment
- When was the last time anyone saw a group of skinny kids. Apparently the goal of the Agriculture Department is to have everyone obese.

- cwbyht.....You are right. I have seen the same thing and have often wondered how these folks quallified for government aid. I don''t have a problem with helping people who are truly in need but I believe that there are far to many who are milking the system. There needs to be some more verification before people are given government help. I don''t know how to do that but I''m sure that it could be worked out. Another poster alludes to the fact that while there may be obese children from poor families it isn''t necessairly because they are eating the right foods. It is expensive to eat the kinds of foods that are healthy and lots of folks make due with foods that are cheap but not really healthy. And finally, anyone who listens to Rush Limbaugh and believes a single word he says is being misled and lied to. The man cannot tell the truth about anything.

- I find this really hard to swallow. Everytime I go to the store I am behind some obese mother with obese kids. She is buying a steak and lobster for herself. Pizza, chicken nuggets, and cases of soda for the kids. And paying for it with foodstamps. Not ust one woman here, Everyone I am behind in line. There is foodstamp fraud and abuse on a mass scale going on in this country.

- For those of you bemoaning the fact that there are fat kids in the mapped areas, are you aware that it is much cheaper to make and serve fattening food than it is to serve healthy food? Check out the prices in the produce section compared to, say, the prices in the pasta section. Aha.
And for the poster who says it''s all the parents fault for buying beer and drugs, etc., etc., I''ll grant you SOME parents are like that but SOME parents are not. You''re lumping them all into the same category. - Reply to this comment
- NOW LET''S BE REAL ABOUT THIS
Our current President has caused all of this and the crooks that were lending money to the people that couldn''t afford it and a lot of people like you that fell for it
The best thing has happened now -- (we got a new face in Washington) let''s hope for the best

- You know if we all stopped having kids, there would soon be no hungry children. We have 6.5 billion people on this planet. Hello, anybody home???? We don''t need any more.

- primary goal is to serve the wealthy.
I encourage everyone to blame them for failing at their jobs.

- I wonder how many of these kids would be eating regularly if their parents didn''''''''t--
Buy alcohol.
Buy Cable TV
Buy drugs
Buy a car outside their budget with big payments.
Buy cigarettes
Eat out at restaurants too often.
Instead of buying food for the family?

Why don''''t you try to find out, instead of sitting around wondering and making snide remarks?

OK Sparky. Exactly what was snide in that post??
Unless you are telling me that there are no parents that have screwed up spending priorities? There are a he!! of a lot of parents out there that spend their money on booze & drugs while their kid goes without. I see it all the time. Try taking a stroll out of whatever Pollyanna world you live in & see for yourself. The only thing I can assume by your attack is that you are one of those parents & you don''t like being profiled. - Reply to this comment
- "You are out of touch Bill. The people in Washington are there to serve the people. "

B.S.
How''s that famous saying by JFK go?..."Ask not what....."
besides
Every 1st and 15th of the month the Post Offices are flooded with checks.
Those checks could feed every kid in America twenty times over.
There''s no reason that even one single kid for one single day should go hungry
...unless some one''s not making the effort to feed them. - Reply to this comment
- Is that map of starving Americans or the presidential election???
