Red Rice Yeast is a natural inexpensive statin.

I take it.

Before agreeing to be placed on any medication - ASK your physician - what is "the Number Needed To Treat"? In the case of Lipitor, you need to treat 100 people to save 2 from having a MI.

PURE RUBBISH!
WHEN ARE THESE LIES GOING TO END! THIS IS ABSOLUTE JUNK SICENCE! ALL STATINS ARE PURE POISON! ALL STATINS ARE A SYNTHETIC VERSION OF A NATURAL OCCURING PESTICIDE THAT GROWS ON THE HUSKS OF RED RICE.
WHEN IS THE FDA GOING TO STAND UP AND END THIS HOAX.
AS A VICTIM OF THIS POISON I AM OUTRAGED!

With Lipitor, you can eat many of the foods that taste great and only pay for the extra weight, not the extra cholesterol.

SO, NOW THE MAKERS OF CRESTOR WANT EVERYONE TO TAKE THEIR PILL TO LOWER THEIR CHOLESTEROL. MY MOTHER DIED AS A DIRECT RESULT FROM TAKING CRESTOR. THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE ONLY SUPPOSE TO AFFECT 3-4% OF THE POPULATION BUT WHEN YOU DIE FROM A DRUG, YOU ARE 100% DEAD. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THATGUY56. LEAVE THE DRUGS ON THE SHELF!!

Doesn''t anyone have a problem with a study that was funded by the people who will benefit from selling more of their own drug. Statins are dangerous. They fry the brain ruining short term memory. The whole choleterol lie was created by the drug companies to make money period.

Statins make plaques less likely to ruture, and alters the plaque make up making them more "mature" - harder capsule. (Keynote lecture - Prediman K. Shah MD Cedar Sinai, LA see Japanese Circulation Society).
Is diet better, as Thatguy56 states. Yes, but if you have been lifelong "bad" and now have plaque, or have inherited "metabolic syndrome" leading to a metabloism prone to plaque, what are you to do ?
But, many do not tolerate these drugs given "muscle" weakness and other side effects.
Is there a lower dosage that works as well/ or alternate day dosage where the polaques can be "matured" without a daily assault on muslces ?

So will a reduction in carb intake. Leave the meds on the shelf and live without the side effects.

That doesn''t always work for some people. My mom has, or "had", very high cholesterol, and she eats very healthy. The doctor originally told her to restrict certain things in her diet, but it didn''t do anything to lower the cholesterol. Apparently her own body is producing it. The only thing that will lower it is the pills.
