Advances in testing and reporting aside, there is absolutely no excuse or reason why in this day and age individuals who have chosen risky activities. There is sufficient information available about this disease and ways to either avoid getting it or ways to protect from getting it and/or spreading it. Advances in treatment have unfortunately given a false sense of immunity to many who dismiss that they can''t get the disease or spread it. That''s just stupid selfish ignorance.

Oh boy, what abunch of goofs you all are. HIV is caused in most cases by s.e.x., dirty needles, blood, and body fluids. No ones debolical mind is behind this , it is not all g,ays ,it is not blacks . What has caused this is a germ, agerm that lives inside people and primates. It has spread because of ***,drug use and the ignorant.Money is not being sent to Africa to ''cure'' aids, but to teach people there about the risks. Americans everywhere should certainly be aware by now, you should know the causes and how to prevent catching it. There are plenty of cases of people contracting it with no risky behavior, but that is due to the people who do practice risky behavior. I personally know of an HIV gay man who is having *** with people that have wives, girlfriends, kids, are probably blood donors,ect... He says he tells them he has it, but they don''t care...Well, I figure just from his stories there are probably 1000''s of people at risk, and that is one guy. since knowing this person, and hearing his tales, I would never have a relationship with ANYONE until they were tested. It is a sad state of affairs, but money spent on aids should go to knowledge. In all counties as we now have a global planet. That cute bartender on a cruise ship? Maybe he is from aids ridden Haiti, or slept with another passenger from Africa. There are basic causes for this disease, there is no cure. Staying faithful to 1 partner, though out of vogue is your best un gaurenteed defence.

ROTFLMAO!!! ''Meat her needs''. Yes, she likes meat... unless she likes melons and pie, but that''s her choice.

With almost 50 mil in the States without health care-what idiot is sending fortunes to cure Africans??

Because, at least in terms of AIDS*, Americans ought to know better.

* your generalized health care comment being irrelevant to THIS conversation -- and I doubt everyone with HIV chose to acquire it out of having depression and not knowing of any other way to go kill one''s self except to share a dirty needle or do something I''d rather not describe because it''s so disgusting...

Whenever the subject of AIDS/HIV comes up, it quickly becomes entangled in the argument about whether homosexuality is a sin and is this God''s punishment. This throws a smoke screen around the scientific argument and delays progress in finding cures or education about prevention.

It was just this mentality that allowed this horrible disease to get loose in the general population.

If you want a ground zero education about this disease, then read "And The Band Played On". It was updated with each printing until the author, himself, died of AIDS.

This is not a gay disease. It is an equal opportunity disease. So far, about the only prevention is safe ***. If you don''t want to practice safe ***, then make sure your Will is up to date.

magoo2u1, it doesnt take any brains to see that if a couple hasnt had se?xual experiences before they get married that they will not have the problem with
se?xual disease of any kind as long as they stay faithful. I thought that the person who said to get a wife was pretty obvious as to what they meant...
It is simple, if you dont want sexually transmitted diseases, then simply control yourself until marriage and hope that your friend has done so also.. and if you find it hard to control yourself then get married stinken early... and make sure it lasts..

Really? Wow. So what was the alternate cure for polio? Heart disease? I''m not clear on how this stops the spread among heterosexuals but since you are the expert I guess you must know.

wl7bzh, you hit the nail on the head, if medicine makes it so as they live longer they have more time to spread this disease..
and yes, evidently between 1982 and 1996 or there abouts, there was 8 new viruses/diseases which have emerged from the homosexual act, so goodness knows how many there are now...

libsluv2spit, don''t worry about ***, with their rotten life style they are committing suicide at a rapid rate, and if andrew_693 had of read my posts he would have seen that I am trying to warn prospect homosexuals what they are up against if they go into this stinken life style... I do not believe that it isn''t something that they can''t help, nor do I believe that it is genetic, there are tooo many homosexuals coming out of homosexuality for it to be genetic, or something that they cant help. Our expected life span is 70 years, homosexuals is only 50..

One of two things will now occur: either we won''''t see any other departments do this, or, we''''ll see ALL of them report drastic and dire news as the Bush administration ends and he prepares to skip town!

That is highly probable. It wouldn''t surprise me anyways.

Tough questions here,

1.
if there is no cure for aids, are we increasing the pool of aids transmitters via HIV inhibiting medications?

2. if aids allows the growth of diseases not normally found in humans, is there an increased risk of a pandemic of the Avian virus in populations such as Africa having a high incidence of HIV infection?

any ideas?
