Debakey was a great pioneer and thoughtful inventor who''s goal was helping mankind to live a better life.

If only more were like him in todays world of selfless self promoters and hawkers.

I am happy for him he walked the Life of someone who cares and you cant get much better than that.

He will live on and be remembered as an inovator and great Physician who brought about change and a better life for mIllions nice touch for an old country Boy who became a DR when they were not much more than witch DR''s who had little control and knowledge.

Nice way to end a life

This only proves that there is no god. At 99, this man was taken way too soon. I''m sure he had another century or two of life ahead of him before his candle was suffed out!

Get over it, everybody dies!

"In 1893 Williams repaired the torn pericardium of James Cornish, who had suffered a knife wound to the heart. This was the second repair of a wound to the pericardium on record, the first having been performed by Dr. Henry Dalton.[3] Even earlier successful pericardial surgeries were performed in the early 19th century by Francisco Romero, a Spanish surgeon, and Napoleon''s physician, Baron Dominique-Jean Larrey.[4]"

so mr. toldyouso12....it looks like you''re right......other than the fact that some other doctors beat your guy by several years..... why are you trying to find a reason to bring up race in this issue? dr. debakey did amazing things as did dr. williams.. i dont think the article said he was the first person to ever operate on the heart....id be willing to bet that happened over 1000 years ago..

I HATE USING THIS MANS LIFE WORK AS AN EXAMPLE,

BUT,

IF INSTEAD OF GIVING MONEY EVERY SUNDAY TO THEIR LOCAL CHURCHS, THEY WOULD INSTEAD DONATE THEIR MONEY TO LEGITIMATE UNIVERSITIES FOR **MEDICAL RESEARCH**,...SUCH AS FOR CANCER , SPINAL CHORD INJURY, HEART DISEASE, DEAFNESS, & BLINDNESS RESEARCH, JUST THINK HOW MUCH MORE "THE HUMAN BENEFITS" WOULD BE RATHER THAN THAT MONEY GOING TO BAIL OUT NAUGHTY PRIESTS, AND TO BUY EVEN LARGER "MEGA CHURCHES" SUCH AS THE JOEL OSTEEN CHURCH IN HOUSTON, TEXAS WHICH USED TO HOUSE THE LOCAL NBA BASKETBALL TEAM.

I CANT HELP BUT THINK WHEN DRIVING AROUND ON SUNDAY MORNINGS WHAT A WASTE OF MAN POWER ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE CONTRIBUTING TOO WHO ARE PARKED AT ALL THE CHURCHES IN MY TOWN. HOW MUNCH "REALLY" BETTER THE WORLD WOULD BE IF "MEDICAL RESEARCH" WAS BEING CONDUCTED FOR THAT HOUR ON SUNDAY, RATHER THAN THE WASTE OF PRECIOUS MAN-WORK-HOURS TAKING PART IN FEEL-GOOD DOGMAS GIVEING ANTIQUATED HOPE THAT THEY WILL HAVE AN AFTERLIFE.

HOW ABOUT HELPING IMPROVE LIFE RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW.

SIGNED,
CANCER AND OTHER DISEASES WOULD HAVE BEEN SOLVED ALONG TIME AGO IF NOT FOR RELIGIONS.

YES, I KNOW THEIR ARE RELIGIOUS HOSPITALS. BUT I''M TALKING ABOUT MEDICAL RESEARCH,..NOT MEDICAL TREATMENT.

START USING YOUR DONATIONS TO FIND A CURE!!!!

Wow, based on this article, you''d think Debakey invented open heart surgery or was a pioneer of that--imagine my surprise (NOT) when I googled the info and found out that the first successful open heart surgery was performed in 1893--by a BLACK MAN. Bet not many people know about that. LOL http://www.aaregistry.com/african_american_history/2408/First_sucessful_openheart_surgery_in_America

I was 15 in 1971 when my beloved step-dad had a heart attack. We lived near Beaumont, TX, 93 miles from Houston. The doctors decided that Dad needed a bypass and sent him to Houston in an ambulance. A couple of days later, Dr. Michale DeBakey performed my dad''s bypass and gave us all renewed hope and Dad lived 5 more wonderful years. Thank you, Dr. DeBakey - my dad had "no titles and no means" but you made all the difference in our lives. Take it easy now... you''ve earned it.
