"TheGateway1,
Many dangerous new presidential powers can be found in the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and certain "Presidential Directives".

Again, what proof can you provide other than you saying it is so.

A link to a congressional website where the law was passed, or the proclomation presented that gives the President power as you describe?

Or are you making this up as you go?

It''s called "21st Century Shellshock"!- At least they don''t execute soldiers by firing squad anymore for it, I suppose you could call that some form of progress.

"Roughly one in five U.S. troops is suffering from major depression or post-traumatic stress from serving in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and an equal number have suffered brain injuries, a new study estimates"

This makes me SICK. If you are going to send them to fight then you d-amn well better make sure that you are able to look after their needs when they return.

And what REALLY makes me sick is the fact that soldiers are being sent back to fight again even after they have been injured!

the government doesn''t car, in reality neither do the people of this country. This war is becoming more and more obscure, there are no "sands of iwo jima" no "pearl harbors" or ''battle of the bulge". There are no defined lines, no uniforms on the enemy, we could be there forever and never actually finish the job. An example of this is Colombia and the FARC guerrillas, they have been fighting non stop since 1948, another example is ETA in Spain, they been killing memebers of the spanish security forces since 1939 and even killed a president. Expect to be in Iraq another 50 years minimum, and the same goes for Afghanistan.

And in the civilian population, the statistics are the same, so how is this a story?

The military is under a lot more stress, yet they have the same percentages. This should be put out as a POSITIVE story on the stability of the troops we have, yet CBullS spins it as bad news.

"Millions of vulnerable citizens struggle on a daily basis with mental disorders that undermine their present lives and imperil their future. To underscore the magnitude of this problem, according to Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General (U. S. Department of Health and Human Services [USDHHS], 1999), an estimated 20% of Americans ages 18 and older--1 in 5 adults--suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. "

I''''''''m tired of hearing about how mentally fragile our troops are. These guys join the military so that Uncle Sam can support them and then whine when they are subjected to stressful situations. What did they think they would be doing in the military? "

Gee, maybe they thought, (mistakenly!) that the VA system would take care of them, if necessary, after they served! I''''m married to a Nam Vet who the VA hospitals and "so-called doctors" have ignored for over 30 yrs. I have seen, first hand how the VA does this, hoping the veteran will die so the gov''''t won''''t have to pay disability. and BTW, not all republicans are in favor of a warmonger like Bush! Also, since when is McCain a hero? He spent his time in prison, never firing a shot or being fired at. Word is, having "chats" with the enemy got him some decent treatment!

I''m tired too of all the whinning about the war. There is no ptsd, all those that go to war live happily ever after. If they decide to blow their brains out, let god sort them all out, hopefully god will be jesus and won''t be Allah up there because if it is they are f...ed

Um, no. No one could do worse than what we have now.

Oh yeah?
Bush has made it possible for himself and any future president to declare a state of emergency and marshall law for any reason without even giving a reason, destroying anything that''s left of our constitutional rights.
If Bush doesn''t do it someone else certainly could.

yeah steve is right, there is no post traumatic stress, it''s all in your head, you need to pray more! war is fun! all those things about "people die in wars" is stuff to scare you only, people never really die in war, they just pretend, according to steve. It''s got to be true, it''s in the bible.

Shouldn''t it be the other way around? I would think that the majority of people who join Bush''s army - I could believe 80 per cent - to go off for slaughter to Eye-Rack, must have some kind of mental problem to voluntarily do that.

"LIBS don''''t have a clue."

Wow your kook-aid must be some good stuff. Taken your blinders off lately? Dont do it, becuase Bush has turned this into a scary world. Recession, dollar value, outting CIA agents, gas, war, pollution, global warming. Whatever you do, dont stop drinking the kool-aid. The truth would hurt you too badly.

It also certainly doesn''t help when our soldiers are seeing mercenary troops getting payed 5 times more than they are for doing the same thing.

Bush, Cheny, McCain dont give a dam about this. It can be that 100% are suffering. All they care about is sending and keeping troops in Iraq to try to clean up their mistakes. Why in the hell are people still supporting this war and McBush?
