From the article:

"It''s not clear why 1,4-butanediol was substituted. However, there is a significant difference in price between the two chemicals. The Chinese online trading platform ChemNet China lists the price of 1,4 butanediol at between about $1,350-$2,800 per metric ton, while the price for 1,5-pentanediol is about $9,700 a ton."

It''s as clear as daylight to me.

Hey all you Americans out there. Let''s quite talking and do something about this. Enough is enough. Let''s write our Congressman and Representatives and tell them to stop all imports from China. If that does not work, let''s quit buying products made in China. It will be tough to do, I know since it seems everything is made in China these days. But until the masses say "NO MORE", it will continue!

First we need to thank the Australians for figuring this out when we couldn''t (or didn''t bother).

To think a Chinese manufacturer can substitute ingredients shows clearly there''s no meaningful oversight by either the corporations involved or the Federal government. Totally unacceptable.

I am starting to wonder if it''s China''s foreign policy to eventually weaken America by slowly exposing all of ours kids to toxic chemicals. I know that''s probably far fetched, but I do hope American businesses that outsource to save money realize that you reap what you sow.
