Survey Shows Obesity Rates Climb In 31 States, No State Shows Decline
- One of the things that people miss is that the food we are sold in stores and restaurants, isn''t the kind of food our bodies are good at processing. Trans fat, which is good fat that was converted to really bad fat, is especially difficult for our bodies to process and no doubt contributes to the obesity factor. But hey, it keeps the food out on the shelves longer and is a money maker. High fructorse corn syrup instead of sugar is also a product introduced into every thing, and again is ever the money make for food manufacturers. However, experiments have shown that it contributes more so to health difficulties, including obesity, than just plain old sugar. But look for products made with simple sugar. It''s like looking for something not made in China. All these things that are money makers, are also obesity makers.

- take a look at the demographics of fat people in america...
you''ll see that the fattest people are in the south stretching from texas to west virginia...
take a look at the bible belt area of america...
it exactly overlaps the fattest states of america.

nothing good comes out of the south. - Reply to this comment
- There needs to be more open, public rejection of fat people. They shouldn''''t be allowed in restaurants, cabs, on public transportation, in theaters, schools, etc. They should be subject to job termination immediately if they get fat.

Maybe we could also open concentration camps for the obese. Anyone who fails a government-mandated yearly physical could be sent to the gulag where they would be forced to exercise and fed nothing but lettuce and carrots, until they met the societally-required physical standards. Once they got too old to do this and put on weight, we could always mercifully terminate their miserable existences and save ourselves some money. "Sorry gramps, you''re the 21st century equivalent of the old Eskimo woman who gets left behind on the ice floe by her family". Yup, sounds like the nice caring country I''d like to live in. - Reply to this comment
- We ate right years ago and we could afford to. Today the food prices are so high. We could have a bal. meal 3 times a day in the 60s and 70s.Today not so. I have one can beans,or soup,or hash,or a tv dinner to heat in the mic for supper. I am blind and poor. Have to buy the lowest priced stuff. My room mate is a diabetic. Just awful.
They took recess,p.e out of the schools and now they whine about wt. I was 100 pbs. until 37. At 37 I went thru the change of life- no periods. That is when my wt went from 100 to 140. I could never put wt on before 37. I can''t lose it. I walk but can''t that well due to c/p and legal blindness. I am 52.
One of the problems is they drink pop, feed it to children is a nono. Some are over fed all ages. - Reply to this comment
- as most liberal would resolve this issue..pass more laws to regulate the food industry..its better and easier than telling people to be more responsible.

a very shallow liberal solution to this problem is just ''throw up''..just like these liberal maidens do in hollywood.. - Reply to this comment
- Americans are getting fatter because they eat to compensate for their dysfunctional behavior problems. If I voted with my head up my ***, as do 90% of Repiglicons, I would be obese, too.

- Let''''s restore the emphasis on physical education and recess in the public schools? We are breeding sedentary, sessile, physically useless beings, destined to major illnesses and short life spans.

Well said !! If cigarettes, alcohol and other vices can get taxed so can fat. - Reply to this comment
- If individuals over eat, becoming unsightly, fat, unhealthy pigs, then tough. The worst part of it is that Americans have to pay for this baloney via taxes for medicare and medicaid beneftis for weight related disorders.
These people are consciously stuffing their faces with food lacking in proper nutrition, developing into sickly, accident prone, deteriorating, undesriable beings, putting a burden on their family, friends and worse, society.

Enough is enough. If there are no consequences for being obese, then there are no incentives to stop gorging. Heavy ratings on insurance premiums don''t seem to help so how about public disgust? How about reducing the amount of food stamps to overweight recipients?
It sure doesn''t help when Oprah tells 200lb. women how beautiful they are after they lost 150 pounds. Who is she kidding? These women are beasts and everyone knows it but Oprah. Then they have the nerve to act like they''re actuallly "HOT".

Of course Americans are getting fatter.
We''ve just had a spate of stories about how we get fatter because of our friends, because of a virus, and on and on.
It''s never our fault for eating too much.

- Unfortunately our school systems are not making things better for our youth by taking away physicall activity. There are less and less sports activities and playtime, thus leaving our children to sit on their bottoms. Not to mention once the little tiks get home they run up to their room and get on the computer all day. I remember a time when we could not wait to get outside and play. That is long gone.

- I could care less about adults and their weight problems. It just pisses me off when they feed their children whatever they want.

- It''s the same here in the UK, obesity is a serious health issue.
Unfortunately fat, sugar and salt in modern processed food tastes great. When was the last time you craved for a carrot.
However, I''ve just been told my blood pressure is through the roof, so carrots and cabbage it is from now on (yuck). - Reply to this comment
