Good points djermano1. But as far as breaking food safety laws, The American FDA sets food and drug safety standards and practices which must be adhered to by industry. The FDA does a risk assessment before approving the chemicals for human use. That is how the chemicals found in Chinese were banned in the US for human and animal consumption.

The American government has failed its citizens terribly by under funding the FDA and thus preventing it from having the man power to enforce its laws. That is how the contaminated Chinese products entered the American food chain. All in the name of tax breaks for the rich.

Give me a break. In the name of making money and profits, the Chinese and Americans are no different. The Chinese government will sacrifice a pig or two to show the world that they are concerned then back to business as usual.

In the U.S. many companies have "budgets" to take care of those penalties they incur when they get caught breaking the law. It's cheaper to pay the fine than it is to fix the problem. This war of "ours" is diverting money used for oversight so the companies know they have a one in fifty chance of getting caught. Nobody ever looks at the profits made while putting people's health in jeopardy.

"Americans break the safety food laws all the time...."

That doesn't excuse China for their lack of oversight in this area, djermano1, which is what this article is about.

Americans break the safety food laws all the time, by putting in chemicals of highly questionable health risks. Aspertame is a good example, and also we can see they allow cyanuric acid, a similar chemical usually used to help keep swimming pools clean but which is permitted by the FDA as a feed additive in carefully limited amounts. Just look at America and their hybrid genetically changed corn stocks, along with their altered rice. Who can trust America with their food industry? I certainly don't.
