President Zuma is right. I have personally known women who fed their children substandard food and failed to provide adequate medical care for them, while feeding the "family dog" the very best dog food on the market and taking it to the vet every time it sniffled. One such woman lost custody of her children after her son got blood poisoning from a cut becasue she had failed to take him to the doctor or even care for the wound. When DCF contacted the children's father in another state regarding what happened, he was so angry, he came home and shot both the dogs and I would have done the same.

Dogs are not, and never will be, "part of the family" and there is something badly wrong with people who attempt to "humanize" dogs and elevate them to the level of human beings.

South African president says having a pet is part of 'white culture'

Apparently so are jobs, intelligence, taste, class, and families with both parents......

President Zuma clearly isn't familiar with the concept of Political Correctness! The idea that people aren't allowed to express unpopular truths! All the racism being spewed at the SA President on here simply because he actually had the nerve to tell a room full of people that their culture has value and they should embrace it. Racist animal rights advocates, now I have seen it all!

BWB2020 says:
During his speech to an appreciative crowd in KwaZulu-Natal, Zuma's home province, the president said people who love dogs more than people have a "lack of humanity" and that some people are trying in vain to "emulate whiteness..."

Nothing wrong with that statement at all.

"Even if you apply any kind of lotion and straighten your hair, you will never be white..."

That is also absolutely correct.

I remember the time when In Singapore, a fashion trend emerged where Chinese girls would dye their hair blond, wear blue contact lenses and boots, to emulate the "white" women.

When asked about the trend, the then-Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew remarked, "There is no law against dyed hair, blue contacts, and boots, but if you think that "whites" will accept you as one of their own, you are sorely mistaken. You are Asian, it is in your face, and your blood, you can never erase that, nor should you want to."

If only "black" Americans remembered the ethnic pride we shared in the 70s.

We almost did the impossible, from the various regions and ethnic heritages that made up our "classification" as "black" Americans, we almost became a unified force.

Had we only succeeded, the progress we have made since then would have come much sooner, and we would be much farther ahead today.

I don't see anything wrong with President Zuma's statement that people who love dogs more than people have a "lack of humanity" either and I'm a white US citizen. In the United States today, a person who harms a dog often has a higher bond set than if he had harmed a human being. I read just the other day about a man being sentenced to four years for animal cruelty. Had he been cruel to a child, it's doubtful he would have gotten any time at all!

Last year, a dog killed a 4-day-old infant in Pennsylvania and the dog freaks went crazy trying to save the DOG! The comments section on news sites were full of people concerned about the dog, but only an infinitesimal few expressed concern that an innocent child had been viciously crushed to death by that 4-legged monster. In that case, the white mother, Brandy Furlong, was on welfare, had two other children (toddlers) and owned FOUR HUGE DOGS! And before she bothered to go to the funeral home to arrange for the burial of her dead child, she went to animal control to sign the dog over to one of the freaks who wanted to adopt it! (He later had to give it up because his neighbors didn't want the demon dog in their community.)

A few months later, a big, ugly "family dog" in Nevada killed a 1-year-old on his birthday and again, the dog freaks were out in force trying to save its life.

Many people today in the US, Canada and Western Europe have seriously misplaced values.

Time to get every dog and cat out of the country along with every single white. And then the country will implode! Because this nitwit will make it illegal to own or use anything that was invented by the whites so they will be back in their huts with tribal warfare constantly going on and a dying population due to terrible disease and starvation. This man is so colorblind it is truly sad. There is nothing wrong with loving and caring for a dog or cat. It teaches humanity and compassion to all. If the heart is so filled with hate for an animal, there is no room for compassion or love for humanity. If he cared about his people, then he needs to tear down his mega-palace and use the funds to help them.

Well, in a way he has a point. (except for the white culture part)
I once heard the white pastor of a Methodist church in Texas say, "We have become a nation which fattens it's dogs while there are children in the world who go hungry." You really have to think about it.....though,of course, it is an over simplification.

The SA President has more than a point. The jest of his words are that everyone should be comfortable and proud of their own culture. No one should spend their lives adopting another culture, the thing about pets was just an example. Americans spends billions on their pets while tens of millions of their fellow Americans go without enough and no healthcare. I and I assume the SA President have a problem with attempts to anthropomorphize animals.

Very shameful statement. So many people find solace in their pets in this often inhumane world. This includes black people, so many I know have pets that are "part of their family." I like animals and our pets do become "family." I like some animals better than some people, but I like some people also. I've also found pets to be good judges of character. If your pet does not like someone, it is a danger sign.

If you have to depend on a pet for "solace," there's something wrong with YOU, not the rest of the world!
