How many times did we hear the gop claim that Obama was "soft on terror"? Think they oversold that claim?

I wouldn't necessary call this hard on terror. But its a step in the right direction so I won't criticize the president when he's actually bashing terrorist head. I just wish they'd stop playing patting cake and get on with it. Step up the pace a little. Patton would be rolling in his grave if he saw how we've been fighting these wars the last 11 years. Take the gloves already Mr President and please everybody - forget this nation building nonsense - we have few friends over there and we never did.

Fed-Up_Patriot, I agree with you on the nation building silliness.
Ericwvb replies:

Yes, we saw how well "taking the gloves off" worked for us in Vietnam. Dumping Agent Orange everywhere, killing 1 million VC, bombing the crap out of that country continually ...
Fed-Up_Patriot replies:

Ericwvb..

You've got a good point.. I see your point very clearly and its forced me to reconsider some of my positions. What we did in Vietnam was kind of stupid. I question if we always know who are enemies are. I also have to point out that slow - indecisive proxy wars can also be just as deadly - look at Iraq.
The groups we are fighting now only leave us 4 choices.
1.) Ignore them entirely - and suffer ever more and ever bigger terrorist attacks here in the US.
2.) Try to undermine their support through nation building and democratic values....
3.) Cut the head off the snake - strategically and surgically. Leaving some elements of the body in place.
4.) All out full scale war.
5.) Complete obliteration...

1.) is obviously not an option at all. 2.) we tried and we learned that not everyone is compatible with Democracy.

So that puts us somewhere else - somewhere between 3 and 4 at this time.. Unlike Vietnam - these terrorist have been making direct attacks on our homeland.. Completely different situation.. And I know a lot about Vietnam and the Vietnamese people... I've been there. We have to recognize that its not our place to decide how other people live their lives or govern their nations. What a tragedy the Vietnam war was. Also thinking about Vietnam war I have to point out how the situation with enemies allowed to fester across the Pakistani border directly mirrors the situation with Nam back then with the 17th parallel and the Cambodian border. So what I'm saying here is you also can't sit back and let your enemies fester and build strength and plan more attacks... Our only concern with the region now should be the elimination of the terrorist.. Anything else is secondary. Nation building experiment has not worked - and should never be done with taxpayer money for nations that do not share common values with us and for nations that will never return the favor. We have much more technology to do #3 now then we ever had in Nam. I recommend starting with that before escalating. The countries that are not cooperating have a choice to make. At the pace both administrations have been going after these terrorist and the lack of cooperation we've received from Pakistan - it should be no surprise that we are now going into year 11.

As in, Obama has grown the debt approximately 23 times greater than Bush did?
---------------------------------------------------------------------Wrong Again! And I'm sure you are including all of 2009 under Bush, as that was his budget.

As in...the debt has grown by $5 Trillion in 4 years. And BUSH had build in a annual 1.2 Trillion debt with his unfunded Prescription Drug plan, new government departments (i.e. DHS) AND unfunded wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hmmm. 1.2 Trillion a year built into the budget BEFORE Obama took office. If my math is correct, that's about 5 Trillion.

Get it?

.

Need to see the "Math" on all the numbers floating around

But here's something to "Add" to your calculations ...

.

Show the Total Gross/Net Amounts
For Budget/Deficits/Surpluses/etc
In Government/Private/Global/etc
Going back 32 years, and ...
Split the 12 years of Democrats
From the 20 years of Republicans

What you get then ?

I am so happy seeing my fellow American's trying to get past the divisive rhetoric and trying to dig into the facts to learn what really the h@ll is going on. I've not seen this sort of behavior for decades. This is the only thing that can save the nation now. Divided - we all fail for sure... United we stand.

A little of topic - so I'll just post the link where you can learn about the national debt problem...

We should continue this debate under the news topics related to this separate issue.
