Really PRC? Good luck with that. I do not believe that you will get that apology. We Americans value free speech and free assembly above all. Chen Guangcheng is guilty of nothing but protesting a lack of liberty (namely forced planned parenthood by the state) in china and i for one applaud him. Furthermore, he has done this through civil disobedience. My prayers go to the Chinese people and I hope they will overcome this oppressive regime that is interested in nothing but its own survival. No apologies.

Well, to be fair, China's population problem led to proactive measures that you so eloquently describe as "forced planned parenthood".

But given the population is nothing more than lots of "cheap labor", I'm surprised people complain...

Obama is the apology king. What is sad is the failure of this administration to believe the Chinese and turn this brave human rights fighter over to the Chinese government.

Your momma George W is the one who put America in hock to China. Your great grandchildren will still be clawing their way out of the hole the Republicans dug us into.

A dissident - one who challenges authority and will do anything to discredit that same authority. If the State Department of State didn't see this one coming, they more hollowed headed than a balloon filled with helium but Obama gets to break out his apology pen and paper again. Hope his penmanship is up to snuff.

agreed. I don't understand why should we give asylum to dissidents. Then we'll have to feed half of asia.

The People's Republic of China holds the United States' pursestrings. We knew that would happen when we decided to transfer our manufacturing and technology to them. Voluntarily transferring our wealth to the People's Republic was against the national interest and nobody in this country did anything to stop it.

Assuming government wasn't bought and paid for, but both of us have the same amount of evidence...

Granted, some people claim China was struck down in WW2 as well, which was why the US and Western countries prospered afterward. (They were probably the same people who fell asleep in history class; I've never heard such claims until very recently, so it clearly smells of crass revisionism...)

Not surprising that the Obama administration bungled and mishandled this situation. Did anyone really think it would turn out any differently? What the U.S. officals say doesn't add up. Why would Chen leave the U.S. Embassy unlles he was guaranteed his and his families safety, or unless what he says is true that his wife would be beaten if he didn't return? To simply take him to the hospital and leave him there is unexcusasble. China is one of the worst human rights violators in the world. Chen can only expect to be prisoned or worse, executed. The Obama administration now is responsible for his faith. And I don't doubt that China will get some kind of apology to some extent.

I don't understand why would US get apology for these? These are sold by our own companies - Nesle, Hershey's, Motorola and such. They buy inferior products without checking the quality and why blame them??
