Comments on: Obama to Africa: End Tyranny, Corruption
Says Continent Needs Strong Institutions, Not Strongmen; Tours Historic Launching Point for Slave Ships
- just the other day some minoriy kids were subjected to racist remarks from white adults who did not want them swimming in their public pool! this was in huntington valley,pa., not some small southern town. it would behoove the president to look at this countries racism, prejudice, and corruption. then deal with africa, china, whoever! we have some serious problems here!

- Racism, to some extent, will always be with us...unfortunately. It is the product of small minds!!
No president is going to eradicate racism. Racism only exists where parents fail to teach their children properly.
Now, he could do something about the corruption...but he wont. His background comes from Chicago, which wrote the How-to book on corruption.

- The only way we can do that is to nook the world. If we don't do that, the other nations will have to handle their own problems!!! That seems to me to be the best thing anyway.

- Obama said: "No country is going to create wealth if its leaders exploit the economy to enrich themselves, or if police can be bought off by drug traffickers," he said.
"No business wants to invest in a place where the government skims 20 percent off the top, or the head of the Port Authority is corrupt. No person wants to live in a society where the rule of law gives way to the rule of brutality and bribery.
"That is not democracy, that is tyranny, even if occasionally you sprinkle an election in there," he said, "and now is the time for that style of governance to end."

He is exactly right. And Washington, DC is guilty of all of these things. We already live under tyranny here. Kind of hypocritical to lecture Ghanians on this when our own government is just as guilty!! - Reply to this comment

Ya, Obama might as well be talking about the USA.
Why doesn't he put his own house in order before he starts preaching to others.
Maybe he should listen to his own sermon.

- Yeah. If he was doing a speech on World War II, he would talk about how it was the French Resistance that defeated Hitler and regained France...not the Allies.
Why is it Obama hates America? - Reply to this comment

- What was with President Obama's speech in Russia -- as pertains to the cold war??
"Like President Medvedev and myself, you're not old enough to have witnessed the darkest hours of the Cold War, when hydrogen bombs were tested in the atmosphere, and children drilled in fallout shelters, and we reached the brink of nuclear catastrophe. But you are the last generation born when the world was divided. At that time, the American and Soviet armies were still massed in Europe, trained and ready to fight. The ideological trenches of the last century were roughly in place. Competition in everything from astrophysics to athletics was treated as a zero-sum game. If one person won, then the other person had to lose.
And then, within a few short years, the world as it was ceased to be. Now, make no mistake: This change did not come from any one nation. The Cold War reached a conclusion because of the actions of many nations over many years, and because the people of Russia and Eastern Europe stood up and decided that its end would be peaceful.
With the end of the Cold War, there were extraordinary expectations -- for peace and for prosperity; for new arrangements among nations, and new opportunities for individuals. Like all periods of great change, it was a time of ambitious plans and endless possibilities. But, of course, things don't always work out exactly as planned. Back in 1993, shortly after this school opened, one NES student summed up the difficulty of change when he told a reporter, and I quote him: "The real world is not so rational as on paper." The real world is not so rational as on paper."
I could have sworn the US and NATO had a significant role in ending the cold war. Guess I was just wrong! Glad President Obama squared us away!! - Reply to this comment

The 'Cold' War ended after Russia came to its senses and Let East Germany "Tear down this wall" as Reagan had said. There were enough Nations that were nuclear armed that there was no winning situation that would allow Russia to maintain a Communistic totalitarian government and confront the USA + a large portion of the other nations of the Earth. Russia did the wisest thing they could, They ended "The USSR" and dissolved back into the respective countrys they had been (kinda) before Russia got grandiose expansionist ideas and conquered them. (We out spent them) (They admit it). But if the peoples hadn't been in an uproar about the high cost of everything the Government would have been content to sit and wait. They realized that 'armed insurrection' was looking them in the face. Obama was right, let it be and quit trying to make everything the man does look like a bad move...

- They ALL know what they were doing, and with none of them it was representing the people,it has ALL been about personal gain through special interests.Bush was a warmonger, and Obama a thief.

- Obama must be talking about the US government,,,they have the market cornered on corruption and tyranny. There is not a single person in Washington who represents the people , they are all in bed with corporate America and its lobby dollar.

- Funny.
Wingnuts are all over the other stories, but they aren't here??
The storyline and the things our President said are unimpeachable. they can't come in on this story and start their blather and lies, because the speech speaks for itself.
Sorry, wingnuts, you lose again. - Reply to this comment

- Baggy, you took the words out of my mouth. Excellent post!
Obama should tell the Democrat party to end their tyranny and corruption.
He should put his own house in order before he starts preaching to others.

Maybe somebody is banishing them.
Like they just did to Baggy.
He'll be baaaaack...

- It continues to be such a relief that we once again have a president who knows what he's doing in office.

- First Obama will have to end his own tyranny and corruption.
Or is it just cluelessness and incompetence?
Obama is the worst president in 100 years.
He should not be preaching to anybody.
- Nope! I can't let you wash your hands of Bush after 6 months of Obama. Republicans still hold the prize for worst president by a large margin.
- I can't let you wash your hands of Bush after 6 months of Obama.
--------------------------
Why not? Democrats "washed their hands" of Clinton even sooner after he left office.
Look at the disasters Bush inherited. Madoff, Enron, Worldcomm, 9/11, WMD lies, banking deregulation.
But has ANY leading Democrat EVER accepted ANY blame for Clinton in the past 8 years????
Sorry, but the Democrats are the party of NO responsibility.
Why don't you stop preaching to me and listen to your own sermon.
