The US has not used nukes in an irresponsible manner. Why should we reduce. We are the world's peace-keep. We need a missile defence system to protect us and our allies from Iran and N. Korea.

Your ignorance is simply unbelievable, edward. He's only been president for 6-7 months and you're already accusing him of bankrupting this country? Even if that's true, most of the work should be credited to his predecessor. If you really think that Obama is being nice to Russia just because of the weapons shipments, then that's sad. Obama knows never to mess with Russia, and thus it is essential that it becomes a strong US ally. Why don't you wake up?

Uh - Dems have been in power for 2 years and 7 months for Congress - you know, those folks that forward bills to be signed - that is SPEND the money.

And, then you preach about ignorance. Grow a brain, liberal.

This is just a dog and pony show. Warheads have become so large that you can eliminate all the smaller ones and still have the same fire power. This is a joke

Well, maybe not the SAME firepower, but certainly enough to do the job of extinguishing life as we know it on earth.

The scary part is that Obama might actually believe he's accomplished something!

I guess with "only" 1500 warheads detonating I'll be a lot less dead than with 2000!
This doesn't include the warheads in the Former Soviet Union Nations either!

Once again Obama has disguised the meaningless gesture in a showy media moment. God, I feel so much safer!!!!

Bad news iamforhonesty...

1500 weapons are still WAY more than it takes to ruin your whole day.

Not to mention more than enough to create a nuclear winter, which will make Mr Gore's global warming look like ants at our picnic while we are surrounded by a forest fire. (not that it isn't anyway - but hey - for those of you worried about how our CO2 is going to freeze us out...)

Sorry edward1975-2009 , but George W. Bush's administration already bankrupted this nation long before Obama even announced his intention to run for President. We owed over 1 trillion to China alone, before Obama took office, and the bank bailout bill passed while Bush was still in Office. (yes Obama voted for it, but so did McCain!!)

You call the change from Democracy to socialism sanity?

When has it ever been a good idea to go into talks with the enemy. Communism is the enemy of Democracy. Does the name Pearl Harbor bring anything to mind?

Add to that the fact that we have to trust a communist dictator to keep his word and reduce the number of nuclear weapons in his arsenal.

And how do you think North Korea would view this agreement?

Sanity? Far from it. More like a death wish.
by stn_sage July 6, 2009 11:49 PM EDT
IF sanity means HE'S smart enough to understand that you have to talk to adversaries, then I'm for it!

While any reduction is by definition, a good thing---it must be remembered that ALL nations holding nuclear weapons must---at some point---also agree to dismantle them---in order to achieve a true disarmament of these cataclysmic weapons!

I cannot believe the comments from some---presumably---young right-wingers here! You people should be rejoicing over this!
Because if we do get in ANOTHER war with someone---ESPECIALLY the Chinese---you'll get drafted, because the voluntary military will no longer be affordable!

That's right, friends! So, if I were you guys,I'd be praying for peace!
