Actually Iran is showing more guts by going after what they want than we do. We go to the polls and vote and thats it for 2 or 4 years. Our Constitution gives us the right to control our government, but over the years the government has voted to take those rights away. When we stand up and say no more, we can have the government our forefathers had in mind, until then we have a Dictatorship under the control of the Democrats and the Republicans. We are not the land of the free, we are the land of the controlled and blinded.

And between the 2 parties they have developed a Dictatorship that transfers power every 4 or 8 years. Both parties continue to work behind the scenes to obliterate our rights and freedoms. And it is people that refuse to see that they DO NOT HAVE TO BE the 2 controlling parties that continue to be led blindly along and accept their control.

The normal response to a bully when you draw a line in the sand and tell them to stop what they are doing, is for them to answer you by saying "Or, what?"
So-citizens of United States and Obama. What is our "or what"? How many pictures or videos will we need to see of people being needlessly slaughtered before we reach a level where we say 'Enough'. When Hilter first started slaughtering people, it took our country a while before we decided to intervene. So what's our number this time? 100 dead? 1000 dead? 5000?

While it is understandable that Obama doesn't want to make this about the US-but that doesn't excuse why the heads of several nations across the world haven't decided to come together and issue a joint statement demanding the killings stop. Or, minimally the heads of the Muslim nations that surround Iran. For God's sake-let the heads of 20 or 30 nations throughout the world clear their busy calendars and immediately meet in one place so that they can jointly let the world know that slaughtering innocent people will not be tolerated in this day and age.

That British loser Gordon Brown, who has bankrupted England with their own stupid bailouts said today: "...Iran must stand up for basic rights".

This after Tony Blair went into Iraq on a 'sexed-up dossier' and helped George Bush bomb and kill over a million Iraqis.

Talk about hypocricy,

Can we really expect respect from the Middle East?
(I'm asking you ditto-heads out there)

No we don't, we are cheering because Iran is the "ENEMY", and the more of the fanatic people there who kill each other off the better for everyone else.
What goes on there is THEIR problem not ours, for once we need to MESS OUT and MOOB!

LOL NEVER! We have ALWAYS done best when we have made it possible in ever civil way for those IN THAT Nation to decide these things. Poland and all of Eastern Europe is a very good example. All the Radical Right and McCain would do is get a LOT of American's Killed and a LOT more of the Money we do not have being spent.

Why don't you fire-breathing neo-cons quit popping-off-at-the-mouth for a minute and ask yourselves:

Why didn't we hold up cards in farsi that said "Where's my vote?" and beg the Iran or China to intefere in Bush vs. Gore?

LOL I was thinking the SAME thing. The American People ELECTED one man and they used the Supreme Court to deny the People their pick. Course that was OKAY since it was a member of the American Taliban.
by YrSoWrong June 21, 2009 8:48 AM EDT
You left-out Venezuela. Perhaps it's because we didn't ask for American sovereignty to be breached by foreign police-states. Not everyone here sees themselves reflected in dictators or buffoons.

Why don't you and the rest of the Traitors try that again... LOL Same old garbage for the Radical Right. Not one of you losers has ever had an American fall at your side, if you had you wouldn't be so willing to have it happen. But hey, you've gotten your butts kicked so much, it doesn't matter now does it?

Some of these right-wing losers landed on the beaches of Normandy and fought real fascism, not the made-up kind that lonely drifters rant and debate until the bookstore throws them out.

I find it interesting that the folks in Iran seem to be raisin hell because they think they got cheated in the election.

I wonder why you never see that kind of thing over here when we're getting cheated day in and day out by lying scheming politicians who've sold us out?

Those folks seem to have some guts, while folks here seem to be asleep.

I geuss we're too civilized to stand up for ourselves.

America was founded on Christian principles; that makes us a Christian Nation. Do not confuse freedom of religion with what this country was founded on simply because other religions are present in this country. Does "In God We Trust" ring a bell?

leftsocialist June 20, 2009 12:39 PM PDT You are wrong. On just about everything. But most of all you are wrong about America being a "Christian Nation" It is true that there are a lot of Christians in America but there are also a lot of Muslims, Jews, Hindu, Atheists, Deists, and so many others. We are a nation of many peoples from all over the world. And thank God that our fore fathers included as the first amendment to the constitution, in the first sentence that there will be NO state religion. If you want to live in a christian nation move to the Vatican, or maybe even Italy or Spain because the United States is Not a Christian state. Thank God we are free.

8razman, very correct. We were established as a Christian Nation but protected from a government controlled by religion. Our first laws were derived from the 10 Commandments, our first schools had one book, the Bible. Our founding fathers intended for us to be free from persecution and free to worship, I do not think they ever foresaw a day when people would believe in nothing.
by YrSoWrong June 20, 2009 8:28 PM EDT
John Adams was a religious man for his times and never thought that the government should serve a religious function. Thomas Jefferson kept a copy of the Gospels with the morals left-in and the supernatural left-out. Tom Paine was considered by some to be an atheist. They agreed on a revolution because they agreed to leave their different religious ideas at the church across the street and took only the altruism and the poetry with them into the government.

Obama is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing thank God we have someone in the White House who has some sense. It will probably take a few years before those people who have been misguided and more or less brain washed by the previous administration and listening to the lying rants of talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and others, to learn or become aware of what a true diplomat, a person who has the American peoples interest first can and will accomplish.

Blame Bush.....now that's original!

Well dazzle us here. Tell us all about the SUCCESS of the Extreme Right and Bush... It would seem to me, given that we had the WORST Attack against this nation in HISTORY on their watch and the fact that those who attacked us are in a safe haven, Bush Created and we are near bankrupt from fighting in ANOTHER Country that had NOTHING to do with any attack on us... that SHOULD be enough failure for you and those like you... FOR a LIFETIME!! Let's let the President do his Job and AFTER its over you can then criticize! Be an AMERICAN for a change, it won't hurt.

When it comes to Iran, President Obama is doing the right thing; respecting their sovereignty.

If you neo-cons are so ready to 'liberate' the Iranian people, then no one is stopping you. There's direct flights to Iran from Sweeden to Turkey.

Grab your gun and head on over there to 'free' the Iranians.

Otherwise SHUT YOUR BIG FAT MOUTHS!

WASHINGTON ? President Barack Obama on Saturday challenged Iran's government to halt a "violent and unjust" crackdown on dissenters, using his bluntest language yet to condemn Tehran's postelection response.

Obama has sought a measured reaction to avoid being drawn in as a meddler in Iranian affairs. His comments have grown more pointed as the clashes intensified, and his latest remarks took direct aim at Iranian leaders.

"We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people," Obama said in a written statement. "The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights."

WHAT we are seeing is a completely different executive branch of American government. As opposed to the 'All Hat and No Saddle' cowboy style that came out of the Bush administration. President Obama has given the correct, 'measured' response to this situation. Try to imagine what Dubya would be doing right now. I promise you it would be bad.

So how are you going to feel about Barry's "measured" response when Israel attacks Iran to eliminate the nuclear posibility ?

Will that be the desired result ?

No, but Barry will have dodged his political bullet, like the good little community organizer that he is.

They have constantly said they wanted their OWN Obama... You poor losers have no common sense let alone any ability to understand the situation. Why don't you go off, find a copy of Bush's "Mission Accomplished" Speech and let this President lead... he's great.

Here are the smartest words I have seen on the subject (pasted from CNN):

CNN: What should the United States do?

Zakaria: I would say continue what we have been doing. By reaching out to Iran, publicly and repeatedly, President Obama has made it extremely difficult for the Iranian regime to claim that they are battling an aggressive America bent on attacking Iran. In his inaugural address, his New Year greetings, and his Cairo speech, there is a consistent effort to convey respect and friendship for Iranians. That is why Khamenei reacted so angrily to the New Year greeting. It undermined the image of the Great Satan that he routinely paints in his sermons. In his Friday sermon, Khamenei said that the United States, Israel, and especially the United Kingdom were behind the street protests, an accusation that will surely sound ridiculous to most Iranians. The fact that Obama has been cautious in his reaction makes it all the harder for Khamenei and Ahmadinejad to wrap themselves in a nationalist flag.

CNN: But shouldn't the U.S. be more vocal in support for the Iranian protesters?

Zakaria: I think a good historic analogy is President George H.W. Bush's cautious response to the cracks in the Soviet empire in 1989. Then, many neo-conservatives were livid with Bush for not loudly supporting those trying to topple the communist regimes in Eastern Europe. But Bush's concern was that the situation was fragile. Those regimes could easily crack down on the protestors and the Soviet Union could send in tanks. Handing the communists reasons to react forcefully would help no one, least of all the protesters. Bush's basic approach was correct and has been vindicated by history.
by speakinup22 June 21, 2009 12:45 PM EDT
Shame! Obama, your inaction to at least say the world disapproves of this draconian suppression of the opposition has lead to more deaths.

Way to guide the free world.

Nothing like "hope and change" - it is certainly NOT working in Iran.
